The claim stems from a website that says its content is strictly for entertainment purposes.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span>Fact Check:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Instagram post says police arrested the 73-year-old Richards at his home in Naples after a neighbor spotted him burying a body in his backyard. Richards supposedly revealed to law enforcement that more than 700 bodies were buried on the property, with police allegedly recovering 587 so far.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on the remains we have found so far, Richards has been murdering and burying bodies in his yard for over 35 years,\u201d reads an alleged quote from Naples Police Chief Robert Thomas included in the Instagram post\u2019s caption. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/04\/05\/fact-check-video-people-posing-covid-fatalities-husky-music-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Video Show People Posing As COVID-19 Fatalities \u2018For The News\u2019?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The story appears to be fabricated. Richards is not listed in the Collier County Sheriff\u2019s Office <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.colliersheriff.org\/arrestsearch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">database<\/a> of recorded arrests and active warrants, nor is he mentioned on the city of Naples\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naplesgov.com\/search\/site\/Richards%252BJerry?search_exact=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>. Neither the sheriff\u2019s office nor the Naples Police Department has issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colliersheriff.org\/community-resources\/our-community\/search-results?q=buried%20bodies#!#0XgdeFXphZ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press release<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile\/100065051731439\/search\/?q=Jerry%20Richards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile\/100064283425786\/search\/?q=Jerry%20Richards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">media<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%22Jerry%20Richards%22%20(from%3ACollierSheriff%20OR%20from%3ANaplesPolice)&#038;src=typed_query\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">post<\/a> announcing such an arrest.<\/p>\n<p>There are likewise <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Jerry+Richards+700+bodies&#038;oq=Jerry+Richards+700+bodies&#038;aqs=chrome..69i57.5363j0j4&#038;sourceid=chrome&#038;ie=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">no credible news reports<\/a> of hundreds of bodies being discovered in Naples. Check Your Fact searched local news outlets, such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naplesnews.com\/search\/?q=bodies+discovered+Richards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Naples Daily News<\/a>, but found no record of Richards or such a grisly discovery being made in the area.\u00a0The rumor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snopes.com\/fact-check\/jerry-richards-serial-killer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">previously circulated<\/a> in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have no record of this occurring,\u201d Jennifer Tate, a spokesperson for the Naples Police Department, told Check Your Fact via email, redirecting the outlet to the Snopes claim debunking the rumor.<\/p>\n<p>The claim appears to have originated with a June 2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/empirenews.net\/florida-millionaire-arrested-after-authorities-discover-over-700-bodies-buried-in-his-backyard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article<\/a> published on the website Empire News.
