Censorship of letters may only be imposed in institutions.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Reddit, the self-proclaimed \u201cfront page of the internet\u201d known for its rampant censorship, has banned users from posting links to Russian state media outlets like Russia Today and Sputnik. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/T6mr1HK6zM\">https:\/\/t.co\/T6mr1HK6zM<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1500325698329882630?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 6, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Lawyer\u00a0Wessel-Aas also noted that a move to censor Russian media with the state deciding what was disinformation would make European countries more like Russia and would give Russian President Vladimir Putin ammunition to claim western countries also engage in censorship of media.<\/p>\n<p>While Norway has, for now, decided not to censor Russian media, other western countries have moved forward with banning Russian state-owned media companies.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the outbreak of war in Ukraine, Germany blocked RT\u2019s German-language arm over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/russian-broadcaster-rt-ordered-stop-germany-program\/\">alleged licensing issues<\/a>, prompting the Russian government to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rferl.org\/a\/russia-bans-deutsche-welle-rt\/31685084.html\">expel employees of Deutsche Welle<\/a>, a German state-owned broadcaster, from Russia in retaliation.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Facebook, YouTube, TikTok Blocks Russian State Media Including RT and Sputnik<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JJYGZkSEmc\">https:\/\/t.co\/JJYGZkSEmc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1499021712305713152?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 2, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>More recently, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/crtc-russia-today-broadcasting-decision-1.6386929\">announced<\/a> it would be banning RT and RT France from its list of non-Canadian broadcasters authorized to air in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRT\u2019s programming is not consistent with the standards against which Canadian services are measured nor the policy objectives set out in the Broadcasting Act,\u201d the CRTC announced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe CRTC is also concerned with programming from a foreign country that seeks to undermine the sovereignty of another country, demean Canadians of a particular ethnic background and undermine democratic institutions within Canada,\u201d the regulator added.<\/p>\n<p>CRTC\u00a0CEO Ian Scott later gave a statement on the issue saying: \u201cFreedom of speech and a range of perspectives are a necessary part of our democracy.
