Mike Lee of Utah on how packing the court would impact the way the three branches of government interact with each other.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do believe we should have rules, and traditions, and precedents, but we shouldn\u2019t have a separate set of rules for Republican nominees and Democratic nominees,\u201d said Durbin. \u201cSo Judge Jackson, if a senator were to ask you today about proposals about changing the current size of the Supreme Court, what would your response be?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator, I agree with Justice Barrett with her response to that question,\u201d responded Jackson. \u201cMy north star is the consideration of the proper role of a judge in our constitutional scheme and, in my view, judges should not be speaking to political issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Judge Jackson says she agrees with Justice Barrett\u2019s response to question of court packing: \u201cMy north star is the consideration of the proper role of a judge in our constitutional scheme and, in my view, judges should not be speaking to political issues.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/B2xgJjuMJG\">https:\/\/t.co\/B2xgJjuMJG<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qWv4LuBxaE\">pic.twitter.com\/qWv4LuBxaE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 ABC News Politics (@ABCPolitics) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ABCPolitics\/status\/1506260495090790402?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 22, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Jackson\u2019s response is particularly interesting in light of broad Democratic support for court packing (including Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/12\/07\/us\/politics\/supreme-court-packing-expansion.html\">creation of a panel<\/a> to consider court packing).<\/p>\n<p>Demand Justice, a judicial activism organization which has had ties to the dark money mothership\u00a0Arabella Advisors, has heavily financially backed Jackson\u2019s nomination to the court. Arabella has distanced itself from Demand Justice in recent months saying that it\u00a0\u201cdoes not work for Demand Justice in any capacity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Demand Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/smear-campaign-leftist-activists-seek-to-intimidate-justices-control-the-court-experts-say\">orchestrated campaigns<\/a> to get both Justice Stephen Breyer to step down and to get Jackson nominated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Supreme Court has become too partisan and too political, and with a united Democratic government the time to act is now,\u201d\u00a0Demand Justice Executive Director Brian Fallon said in April 2021.\u00a0\u201cThe 6-3 Republican-appointed majority consistently sides with Republican politicians and corporate interests over the American people, and we must act before they rig the rules of our democracy even further.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Here&#8217;s a photo of Demand Justice&#8217;s billboard truck outside of Union Station. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2N1Md9WSiV\">pic.twitter.com\/2N1Md9WSiV<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jennifer Bendery (@jbendery) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jbendery\/status\/1380523176791248896?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 9, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), who spoke with Jackson earlier this month, said that he found it problematic she would not answer whether she supported court packing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI asked her to defend the court,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/mcconnell-says-court-packing-question-should-have-been-easy-thing-for-biden-supreme-court-nominee-to-answer\">told Fox News<\/a>. \u201cRuth Bader Ginsburg and Justice Breyer both publicly opposed court-packing, that is trying to increase the number of court members in order to get an outcome you like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat would have been an easy thing for her to do to defend the integrity of the court,\u201d he added. \u201cShe wouldn\u2019t do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McConnell promised that in the meantime, the committee \u201cwill ask her all the tough questions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI haven\u2019t made a final decision as to how I\u2019m going to vote,\u201d McConnell added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd by the way, she\u2019ll be treated much better than Democrats are typically treating Republican nominees like Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh,\u201d McConnell said. \u201cIt\u2019ll be a respectful, deep dive into her record, which I think is entirely appropriate for a lifetime appointment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest growing conservative media companies for breaking news, investigative reporting, sports, podcasts, in-depth analysis, books, and entertainment for a reason: because we believe in what we do.
