Eric Holcomb angered conservatives this week when he vetoed a bill designed to protect women\u2019s sports from transgender activism.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Holcomb said in a letter on Monday that he finds \u201cno evidence\u201d to support the idea that sports are suffering from a lack of fairness in his state.\u00a0The bill, HEA 1041, would have banned men who identify as women from competing in opposite-gender sports.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cThe wide-open nature of the grievance provisions in HEA 1041 that apply to all K-12 schools in Indiana makes it unclear about how consistency and fairness will be maintained for parents and students across different counties and school districts,\u201d Holcomb wrote in the letter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cThe presumption of the policy laid out in HEA 1041 is that there is an existing problem in K-12 sports in Indiana that requires further state government intervention,\u201d he added. \u201cIt implies that the goals of consistency and fairness in competitive female sports are not currently being met. After a thorough review, I find no evidence to support either claim even if I support the overall goal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indystar.com\/story\/news\/education\/2022\/03\/21\/indiana-gov-eric-holcomb-vetoes-transgender-sports-ban\/9457033002\/\">IndyStar,\u00a0<\/a>the bill may still become law, being that \u201cRepublican lawmakers have a supermajority in both chambers at the\u00a0Statehouse, and only need a simple majority to override a veto.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The bill was staunchly opposed by the ACLU and\u00a0<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wrtv.com\/news\/politics\/bill-banning-transgender-girls-from-playing-school-sports-in-indiana-passes-senate-committee\">The Indiana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics<\/a>\u00a0(Indiana AAP). The Indiana High School Athletics Association (IHSAA) also claimed transgenders had no unfair advantage in women\u2019s sports by requiring transgender athletes to specify they have been living as their preferred gender for over a year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cThe moment the Indiana High School Athletic Association admitted there was no unfair advantage occurring in women\u2019s sports, it became clear House Bill 1041 was more about fulfilling a made-up culture war than actually creating a better future for Hoosier children,\u201d Indiana Democrats said after the veto.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cIndiana Republicans even admitted their goal was more about abiding by national politics than solving today\u2019s problems facing kids \u2013 and it\u2019s why they partnered with a national hate group to pass House Bill 1041,\u201d it added.\u00a0<i>It\u2019s encouraging to see Governor Eric Holcomb tell his party that their culture wars have crossed the line.\u201d <\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Holcomb faced criticism from lawmakers for his veto:<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cI\u2019m disappointed with Gov. Holcomb\u2019s veto of a common-sense bill that frankly doesn\u2019t go far enough to Save Women\u2019s Sports,\u201d tweeted Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN). \u201cMy hope is that the Indiana General Assembly will meet soon to override the veto and send a message to the rest of the nation that Indiana values women.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I\u2019m disappointed with Gov. Kristi\u00a0Noem\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/news\/south-dakota-gov-kristi-noem-signs-transgender-athlete-ban\/\">signed<\/a>\u00a0a bill\u00a0restricting biological males from competing in women\u2019s sports up through college. Speaking with Fox News, she said the law was about \u201cleveling the playing field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is true that your girls will have a level playing field,\u201d\u00a0she\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/clips\/2022\/02\/04\/noem-transgender-ban-about-leveling-the-playing-field\/\">said<\/a>. \u201cThey will get the chance to compete only against other biological females, as reflected on their birth certificate because we want them to have a chance to be successful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds (R<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/sports\/2022\/03\/03\/iowa-gov-kim-reynolds-signs-bill-protecting-girls-sports-from-transgender-athletes\/\">)\u00a0signed a bill <\/a>that will require athletes to compete on school, college, and university sports teams corresponding to their biological sex.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican Indiana Gov.
