Michaels, whose contract is for three years, will be paid near the Joe Buck neighborhood, according to sources.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/03\/11\/joe-buck-expected-to-leave-fox-sports-for-huge-espn-deal\/\">Buck signed a five-year, $75 million deal with ESPN<\/a> to join his longtime partner at Fox, Troy Aikman, on ESPN\u2019s \u201cMonday Night Football.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Herbstreit, who has two years remaining on his ESPN deal, will also continue on \u201cCollege GameDay\u201d and Saturday college games. Michaels will still do a game or two for NBC, including its extra NFL playoff game, according to sources. NBC decided to replace Michaels with Mike Tirico as its \u201cSunday Night Football\u201d play-by-player beginning next season.<\/p>\n<p>Michaels has waited to agree to the contract with Amazon to see whether ESPN or Fox would become options.<\/p>\n<p>ESPN would have tried to team Michaels with Aikman if Fox declined to let Buck out of his contract. After Buck left, Michaels and his representatives reached out to Fox to see whether it would want him, according to sources, but Fox, with two of the next three Super Bowls, has been inclined to go with Kevin Burkhardt.<\/p>\n<p>No new deal is yet signed with Burkhardt, but there is a growing expectation that he will be its No. 1 NFL game-caller. His current partner, Greg Olsen, is a leading candidate to be the network\u2019s top analyst.<\/p>\n<p>Michaels did not do all the games at NBC in recent years; as Tirico, his backup, had the opportunity to do a few games per year written into his contract. The 11-year agreement is for more than a billion dollars per year.<\/p>\n<p>Amazon has already brought over NBC\u2019s \u201cSNF\u201d producer, Fred Gaudelli, to lead its Thursday night telecasts. Gaudelli has produced seven Super Bowls.<\/p>\n<p>In devising its booth, Amazon has strove to have credibility with its audience, which is why it has targeted Michaels since June. The Herbstreit deal came together much later, after Amazon pursued Aikman, Sean McVay and John Lynch, among others. Michaels had wanted Aikman or McVay.<\/p>\n<p>When Amazon found out Herbstreit\u2019s ESPN contract allowed him to work the NFL for another entity, it jumped at the chance, thinking he would be the right partner for Michaels. The streaming service will also have yet to be determined alternate feeds.<\/p>\n<h2>WFAN beats ESPN in second month<\/h2>\n<p>In the second month of the winter book, WFAN beat ESPN New York. In mornings, \u201cBoomer &#038; Gio\u201d had a 7.2 share (second in market), according to Nielsen Audio, while ESPN New York\u2019s combo of \u201cKeyshawn, J-Will &#038; Max\u201d and \u201cDiPietro &#038; Rothenberg\u201d had a 1.8 (17th). In afternoons, \u201cCarton &#038; Roberts\u201d defeated \u201cThe Michael Kay Show\u201d with a 5.0 (third) to Kay\u2019s 4.4 (eighth). From 10 a.m.-2 p.m., FAN\u2019s new \u201cTiki &#038; Tierney\u201d was 12th in the market (3.0), while the combo of Mike Greenberg and his fill-ins and \u201cBart &#038; Hahn were 18th (1.7 share).
