This goes beyond \u201csoft on crime.\u201d I\u2019m concerned that this a record that endangers our children<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Josh Hawley (@HawleyMO) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HawleyMO\/status\/1504221927665250305?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 16, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In an 18-tweet\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HawleyMO\/status\/1504221926662844418\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thread<\/a>, Hawley laid out questionable rulings and comments from Jackson regarding child sex offenders.<\/p>\n<p>However, despite Hawley\u2019s valid concern as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee where Jackson\u2019s confirmation hearings will take place, corporate media has used Hawley\u2019s concerns to liken him to \u201cQanon\u201d and \u201cPizzagate.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Vox\u2019s Ian Millhiser\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2022\/3\/18\/22983877\/supreme-court-josh-hawley-ketanji-brown-jackson-child-pornography-sentencing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">described<\/a>\u00a0Hawley\u2019s thread as \u201ca stunningly inflammatory charge, reminiscent of conspiracy theories such as QAnon or Pizzagate, which posit that prominent liberals are part of a vast ring of pedophiles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite Millhiser\u2019s attempt to link Hawley to QAnon, he later\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2022\/3\/18\/22983877\/supreme-court-josh-hawley-ketanji-brown-jackson-child-pornography-sentencing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">admits<\/a>\u00a0that Hawley\u2019s criticism of Jackson\u2019s soft sentencing of child sex offenders appears \u201cto be literally true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his thread, Hawley drew attention to seven instances where Judge Jackson gave lower sentencing to child sex offenders than federal guidelines suggested.<\/p>\n<p>Millhiser again\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2022\/3\/18\/22983877\/supreme-court-josh-hawley-ketanji-brown-jackson-child-pornography-sentencing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">admitted<\/a>\u00a0that \u201cHawley is technically telling the truth when he says that Jackson \u2018deviated from the federal sentencing guidelines.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MSNBC\u2019s Joy Reid\u2019s\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/the-reidout\/reidout-blog\/hawley-ketanji-brown-jackson-qanon-rcna20592\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blog<\/a>\u00a0also attempted to link Hawley with Qanon because of his thread. The ReidOut Blog claimed Hawley\u2019s allegations \u201chew closely to claims we\u2019ve heard from QAnon conspiracy theorists.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cHawley didn\u2019t mention the conspiracy by name Wednesday, but his allegations were tinged with the same hysteria,\u201d the blog\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/the-reidout\/reidout-blog\/hawley-ketanji-brown-jackson-qanon-rcna20592\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">continued<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Dot\u2019s Mike Rothschild added to the Qanon dogpile coming from leftist media.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Rothschild\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailydot.com\/debug\/josh-hawley-ketanji-jackson-brown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>But in attacking Judge Jackson\u2019s record on issues related to such crimes, Hawley, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, signaled an intention to appeal during the hearing to the great mass of conspiracy theorists who obsess over \u201ccrimes against children\u201d allegedly committed by Democrats.
