We\u2019ve upped that in the first three weeks that we were in office to significantly more than that, we\u2019ve moved out, went to the Pfizer and Moderna and said, can you produce more vaccine and more rapidly? And not only agree to go from 200 to 400, then they agreed to go to 600 million doses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo if end of April, excuse me, the end of July, they\u2019re available to actually get them in the arms of people who want them that will take what, a couple more months? CNN\u2019s Anderson Cooper asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, no, a lot will be being vaccinated in the meantime. In other words, it\u2019s not all of a sudden 600 million doses are going to appear,\u201d Biden answered. \u201cAnd what\u2019s going to happen is it\u2019s going to continue to increase as we move along. And we\u2019ll have we\u2019ll have reached 400 million by the end of May and 600 million by the middle of by the end of July.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s one thing to have the vaccine, which we didn\u2019t have when we came into office, but a vaccinator, how do you get the vaccine into someone\u2019s arm?\u201d Biden continued. \u201cSo you need the paraphernalia, you need the needle, you need the mechanisms to be able to get it in, you have to have people who can inject it in people\u2019s arms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first dose of the <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/us-administer-1st-doses-pfizer-coronavirus-vaccine\/story?id=74703018\">Pfizer<\/a> vaccine was given on December 14 and the first dose of the <a href=\"https:\/\/khn.org\/morning-breakout\/first-moderna-shots-given-biontech-aims-to-ramp-up-2021-production\/\">Moderna<\/a> vaccine was given on December 22\u2014a month before he was inaugurated on January 20, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>WATCH:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Joe Biden falsely claims \u201cwe didn\u2019t have [the vaccine] when we came into office\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/XZc21RsWbJ\">https:\/\/t.co\/XZc21RsWbJ<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2s0vnbpEcG\">pic.twitter.com\/2s0vnbpEcG<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 RNC Research (@RNCResearch) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RNCResearch\/status\/1361861567432785922?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 17, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Just two days after Biden took office, Bloomberg News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-01-22\/biden-s-million-dose-a-day-goal-sets-a-bar-that-s-nearly-met\">reported<\/a> that the U.S. was almost already on track to meet Biden\u2019s goal of 100 million vaccinations in 100 days.<\/p>\n<p>The report said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>In the week Biden was sworn in as president, nearly&nbsp;983,000&nbsp;shots a day were administered on average over the seven days ending Friday, according to data from&nbsp;&nbsp;Bloomberg\u2019s Vaccine Tracker. The most recent three days topped a million doses. \u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Pressed on&nbsp;the 100-million-dose goal on Thursday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki explained the math behind the administration\u2019s thinking. She&nbsp;said that under Trump, 17 million doses had been administered in the first 38 days, for an average rate of less than 500,000 a day, and Biden\u2019s team hoped to double that.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Bloomberg\u2019s data show&nbsp;that the rate has increased substantially since the first weeks of the rollout. A more ambitious plan would be to double the current rate of vaccinations\u2014not the average rate during the early phase of vaccine distribution.
