Cindy Axne (D-IA) asserted that there is \u201cno logic\u201d behind\u00a0the claim that the Biden administration\u2019s green policies are causing havoc on oil companies and their production.<\/p>\n<p><strong>VERDICT: False.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>During a <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.raccoonvalleyradio.com\/2022\/03\/17\/lets-talk-guthrie-county-cindy-axne-iowas-third-congressional-district-representative-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">radio interview<\/a> last week with\u00a0<em>Let\u2019s Talk Guthrie County,<\/em>\u00a0Rep. Axne claimed that there is \u201cno logic\u201d to the claim that President Biden wreaked havoc on oil companies and their production when he enacted his green policies and signed executive orders in his first week of office.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, as the Biden administration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/10\/green-energy-advocate-sec-granholm-pleads-with-fossil-fuel-executives-to-up-production\/\">pushes<\/a> a world that doesn\u2019t use oil, it makes oil investment scarcer. As gas prices have increased, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/07\/pete-buttigieg-promotes-electric-cars-public-transportation-as-solution-to-high-gas-prices\/\">suggested<\/a> that Americans struggling with high gas prices switch to electric vehicles to save money.<\/p>\n<p>Since being in office, Biden\u00a0has\u00a0taken aim at American energy independence. He has\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/donald-trump-joe-biden-keystone-pipeline-canada-environment-and-nature-141eabd7cca6449dfbd2dab8165812f2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">canceled<\/a> the\u00a0Keystone XL Pipeline, <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/01\/27\/biden-suspends-oil-and-gas-drilling-in-series-of.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">suspended<\/a> oil and gas leasing on public lands and waters, <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-12-10\/biden-halts-federal-aid-to-coal-oil-and-gas-projects-overseas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">halted<\/a>\u00a0federal support for oil and gas projects overseas, and\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/06\/01\/climate\/biden-drilling-arctic-national-wildlife-refuge.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">suspended<\/a>\u00a0oil drilling leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>In fact, Energy Secretary\u00a0Jennifer Granholm <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/energy-environment\/585799-energy-chief-we-are-not-considering-oil-export-ban\">said<\/a> the administration would not impose a ban on crude oil exports as Biden waived the sanctions on Russia\u2019s Nord Stream 2 pipeline, a move which\u00a0would <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-57180674\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">reduce<\/a> American energy exports. The Ukrainians <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/nord-stream-sanctions-ukraine-russia-c1e2b76b-5671-4a25-b48d-6bff21d2de20.html\">claim<\/a> lifting the sanctions on Nord Stream 2 is one of the reasons\u00a0the Russians have invaded Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s \u201cmarque legislation,\u201d the\u00a0Build Back Better Act, targeted the oil, natural gas, and refining industries in the United States. The\u00a0legislation would have \u201cincreased\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2021\/10\/28\/whats-in-democrats-1-75-trillion-spending-bill\/\">bonding requirements, royalty rates, and fees<\/a>\u00a0while\u00a0restricting access\u00a0to energy resources in Alaska and on the Outer Continental Shelf for oil and gas development,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/energy-economics\/commentary\/bidens-many-anti-energy-policies-are-hurting-producers-consumers-alike\">stated<\/a>\u00a0Katie Tubb, a\u00a0policy analyst at the\u00a0Institute for Economic Policy Studies at The Heritage Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Oil companies are \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?516119-1\/senate-hearing-domestic-international-energy-costs\">trying to reposition for the long term<\/a>\u201d since the administration is looking for ways to put them out of business. Due to this, oil production has not been able to keep up with demand in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>In December, before the price of oil and gas skyrocketed to record highs,\u00a0Tubb wrote in her commentary for the Heritage Foundation:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>To state it more bluntly, the Biden administration and its allies in Congress have made it very clear that they intend to put the oil industry in America out of business. What does it look like to \u201cwork together\u201d with an administration that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atr.org\/joe-biden-we-are-going-get-rid-fossil-fuels\">promised<\/a>\u00a0\u201cto get rid of fossil fuels\u201d and advised that oil company executives be \u201cthrown in jail\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>If that is the future Granholm is working toward, who can blame American companies for being hesitant to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oil-price.net\/en\/articles\/oil-drilling-expensive-business.php\">invest<\/a>\u00a0hundreds of thousands to billions of dollars in exploration, equipment, and employees to produce oil?<\/p>\n<p>So far, the Biden administration has tried to relieve the political pressure of gasoline prices that are the highest they\u2019ve been since 2014 by trying to cajole more production from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2021\/08\/16\/high-gasoline-prices-and-bidens-confusing-opec-request-on-oil-production\">OPEC+ countries<\/a>, releasing oil from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2021\/11\/23\/bidens-strategic-petroleum-reserve-sale-is-shoddy-shortcut-not-the-needed-course-correction\">Strategic Petroleum Reserve<\/a>, and investigating the oil industry for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/biden-asks-ftc-to-examine-whether-oil-gas-companies-are-illegally-keeping-gas-prices-high-11637164142\">price gouging<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe U.S. Energy Information Administration\u2019s International Energy Outlook\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/outlooks\/ieo\/pdf\/IEO2021_Narrative.pdf\">projects<\/a>\u00a0no scenario in which global demand for oil does not increase through at least 2050,\u201d Tubb added. \u201cBut the Biden administration seems determined that none of that oil will be produced in the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep.
