She will also receive her compensation in crypto.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Few women are part of crypto,&#8221; which &#8220;mirrors the inequality we see in other financial markets,&#8221; Osaka <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/now\/naomi-osaka-world-renowned-tennis-140000164.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Osaka&#8217;s mention of &#8220;inequality&#8221; is in line with other positions she has expressed over the years. She <a href=\"https:\/\/english.kyodonews.net\/news\/2020\/08\/afee54557e62-breaking-news-osaka-will-not-play-cincinnati-semi-joins-stand-against-police-violence.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">withdrew<\/a> from the 2020 Cincinnati Open to protest the police shooting of Jacob Blake, in which the officers involved were ultimately cleared of wrongdoing. She has also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esquire.com\/sports\/a33022329\/naomi-osaka-op-ed-george-floyd-protests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">endorsed<\/a> the far-left Black Lives Matter movement.<\/p>\n<p>Many journalists <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/media\/naomi-osaka-media-scandal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">praised<\/a> Osaka for her 2021 decision not to talk to journalists, with sports reporter Marina Hyde asking, &#8220;How much can it honestly matter?&#8221; <i>New York Times<\/i> tennis writer Christopher Clarey was one of only a few to argue that &#8220;facing unwelcome questions, even in defeat, does not seem like too much to ask&#8221; from athletes.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <em>Women&#8217;s Agenda<\/em> in June, Osaka said she has suffered from depression since her 2018 U.S. Open win.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The truth is that I have suffered long bouts of depression since the U.S. Open in 2018, and I have had a really hard time coping with that,&#8221; Osaka said.<\/p>\n<p>Following Osaka&#8217;s decision to bow out of the French Open, her singles ranking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wtatennis.com\/players\/319998\/naomi-osaka\/rankings-history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plummeted<\/a>, going in less than two weeks in January 2022 from 14th to 85th in the world.
