You, Judge Jackson, can be the first,\u201d Durbin said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/politics\/live-news\/ketanji-brown-jackson-hearing-3-21-22\/h_d55eb007ac9235c4b07e2ed7c189b3bf\">adding<\/a>, \u201cIt\u2019s not easy being the first. Often you have to be the best. In some ways, the bravest. Many are not prepared to face that kind of heat, that kind of scrutiny, that ordeal and the glare of the national spotlight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Durbin went on to lament that the makeup of the Supreme Court had not ever properly reflected the makeup of the country, saying that Jackson\u2019s confirmation could change that. \u201cWe can be confident that the court, its role, and its decisions will be more understandable to the American public,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Durbin also addressed the concerns that seem to come up at every Supreme Court Justice\u2019s confirmation hearing \u2014 whether or not the nominee will feel beholden to the president who gave them the nomination, in this case, President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;There may be some who claim, without a shred of evidence, that you&#8217;ll be a rubber stamp for this president\u2026I have four words. Look at the record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Protesters had already gathered outside the Capitol even as Judge Jackson\u2019s hearing began on Monday \u2014 on both sides of the abortion issue \u2014 to either call for Jackson\u2019s confirmation or challenge it on the basis of her record.<\/p>\n<p>As The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/watch-abortion-protesters-battle-outside-of-ketanji-brown-jacksons-confirmation-hearings\/\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Jackson\u2019s case background on abortion appears relatively limited, though she clearly sides with Biden\u2019s pro-abortion perspective.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIn a related case, she ruled against the Trump administration\u2019s decision to cut grant funding under the federal Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program. In\u00a0Policy and Research v.
