Indifference? Political calculation? Mediation without choosing sides?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll leave you to provide the answers to these questions, but I want to point out that indifference kills. Calculations can be wrong. You can mediate between countries, but not between good and evil,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>However, in his nightly video address to Ukrainians later that evening, Zelensky said Israel was spearheading many efforts to hold talks between his country and Russia and suggested that Jerusalem might host a peace summit.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe prime minister of Israel, Mr. [Naftali] Bennett, is trying to find a way of holding talks. And we are grateful for this. We are grateful for his efforts, so that sooner or later we will begin to have talks with Russia, possibly in Jerusalem,\u201d Zelensky said, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/ukraines-zelenskiy-says-israel-good-place-holding-talks-with-russia-2022-03-21\/\">translation<\/a> by Reuters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__base__22dCE body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__OOj6H\">\u201cThat\u2019s the right place to find peace. If possible,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett offered to act as a mediator between Russia and Ukraine during a phone call with President Vladimir Putin on Sunday, a statement from the Kremlin said. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2sGt1mMAFu\">https:\/\/t.co\/2sGt1mMAFu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1497988103738429441?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 27, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__base__22dCE body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__OOj6H\">As an ally of both\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Russia<\/span>\u00a0and Ukraine, Israel has been cautious about taking sides.\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Russia<\/span>\u00a0has heavy military presence in\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Syria<\/span>\u00a0and controls its skies and as such,\u00a0Jerusalem\u00a0coordinates all military strikes on Iranian targets in\u00a0<span class=\"il\">Syria<\/span>\u00a0with Moscow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__base__22dCE body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__OOj6H\">Nevertheless, Bennett has intensified efforts to make talks happen between the two sides over the last week. He has spoken with each leader several times since Russia\u00a0invaded Ukraine on February 24 as well as making a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/middle-east\/2022\/03\/06\/bennett-after-meeting-putin-we-have-moral-duty-to-end-suffering-in-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lightening trip to Moscow<\/a>\u00a0earlier this month to meet with Putin.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__regular__2N1Xr text__large__nEccO body__base__22dCE body__large_body__FV5_X article-body__element__OOj6H\">Bennett on Monday said that while there had been progress in the talks, \u201cvery large\u201d differences remain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue, together with other countries, to try to bring an end to the war,\u201d Bennett said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is still a long way to go because there are controversial issues, some of them fundamental issues. Recently, there has been developments between the sides, but the gaps are still very large,\u201d he said at a conference organized by the Yedioth newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>He also denounced Zelensky\u2019s use of the Holocaust.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis country and his people are in a very severe war,\u201d Bennett said of Zelensky. \u201cMany hundreds of dead, millions of refugees. (Amir Levy\/Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In his speech, Zelensky also criticized Israel for not providing weapons and repeated his appeal for Jerusalem to provide Kyiv with the Iron Dome missile defense system \u2013 despite it not being\u00a0technically possible to do so.<\/p>\n<p>He took a historically revisionist approach when he appealed to Israelis to help Ukraine out now just as Ukrainians helped out the Jews during the Holocaust. Ukraine has a sordid history of cohorting with the Nazis and their treatment of the Jews in the Holocaust is well known in Israel.<\/p>\n<p>As the<em> Jerusalem Post<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/israel-news\/politics-and-diplomacy\/article-701850\">reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Israelis know the history of the Holocaust very well. The Ukrainian Auxiliary Police rounded up Jews to be massacred in\u00a0Babyn Yar, Lviv and Zhytomyr. About 80,000 Ukrainians volunteered for the SS, compared with 2,600 Ukrainians documented as having saved Jews. And before that, some of the worst pogroms in Jewish history were perpetrated in what is now Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>None of that should matter in 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine and is brutally bombarding its civilian centers.
