The targets were spread between several cities, including the Saudi capital of Riyadh and the major Red Sea port of Jeddah.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>The Saudi military coalition said the Houthi attack involved cruise missiles made in Iran. The coalition said its air defenses intercepted many of the Houthi weapons, but Saudi state media carried photos and videos of fires and explosive damage from the missiles that made it through.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The coalition also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/english.alarabiya.net\/News\/gulf\/2022\/03\/20\/Houthi-attack-on-Aramco-distribution-plan-in-Jeddah-causes-fire-Coalition\"><span>charged<\/span><\/a><span> the Houthis with launching at least 106 explosive-laden boats in an effort to compromise freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. The coalition said it was able to destroy most of these bomb boats, \u201cprotecting shipping lines and global trade.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>One of the Houthi missile strikes <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/english.alarabiya.net\/News\/gulf\/2022\/03\/20\/Houthi-attack-on-Aramco-distribution-plan-in-Jeddah-causes-fire-Coalition\"><span>started<\/span><\/a><span> a \u201climited fire\u201d in a tank at the Jeddah distribution plant for Saudi Aramco, the national oil company. The fire was brought under control without loss of life<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>Another strike <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/saudi-led-coalition-says-four-houthi-attacks-hit-targets-kingdom-no-casualties-2022-03-19\/\"><span>damaged<\/span><\/a><span> a natural gas plant and refinery in the city of Yasref. The Saudi Energy Ministry said on Sunday the assault on Yasref \u201chas led to a temporary reduction in the refinery\u2019s production, which will be compensated for from the inventory.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Aramco officials said the attacks did not cause enough damage to seriously disrupt gas and petroleum supplies, but the state-run Saudi news agency SPA on Monday <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/saudi-arabia-says-it-will-not-bear-responsibility-oil-shortages-light-recent-2022-03-21\/\"><span>quoted<\/span><\/a><span> a Foreign Ministry source that said the Saudis would not be held responsible for disruptions to the already-stressed world oil market caused by Houthi attacks.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_16114904\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2021\/03\/AP_19264428453770.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>A Shiite Houthi tribesman holds his weapon during a tribal gathering showing support for the Houthi movement, in Sanaa, Yemen, Saturday Sept. 21, 2019.\u00a0 (AP Photo\/Hani Mohammed)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>The Foreign Ministry source warned that continued drone and missile attacks \u201cwill affect the kingdom\u2019s production capacity and its ability to fulfill its obligations, which undoubtedly threatens the security and stability of energy supplies to global markets.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Houthi attack \u2013 a major escalation of the insurgency\u2019s conflict with Saudi Arabia, and one of the heaviest salvos it has launched against Saudi targets since the beginning of the Yemeni civil war \u2013 came after several days of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.voanews.com\/a\/yemen-rebels-launch-barrage-of-strikes-on-saudi-sites-\/6493357.html\"><span>intense diplomacy<\/span><\/a><span> in Oman, where U.N. special envoy Hans Grundberg <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.mehrnews.com\/news\/185012\/UN-envoy-top-Yemeni-negotiator-disscuss-ceasefire-in-Muscat\"><span>met with<\/span><\/a><span> Houthi negotiators to discuss \u201ca possible truce during the holy month of Ramadan.\u201d Ramadan <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.almanac.com\/content\/when-start-ramadan\"><span>begins<\/span><\/a><span> on April 2 this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/english.alarabiya.net\/News\/gulf\/2022\/03\/20\/US-condemns-Houthi-attacks-on-Saudi-Arabia-affirms-support-to-Riyadh-White-House\"><span>condemned<\/span><\/a><span> the Houthi strikes on Sunday as \u201cterrorist attacks\u201d and complained about the insurgency constantly using such violent actions to sabotage peace negotiations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThese attacks reportedly targeted water treatment facilities as well as oil and natural gas infrastructure. The Houthis launch these terrorist attacks with enabling by Iran, which supplies them with missile and UAV components, training, and expertise. This is done in violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions prohibiting the import of weapons into Yemen,\u201d Sullivan said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSaudi Arabia and the Yemeni Government have endorsed multiple U.N. calls for ceasefires and de-escalation over the last year. The Houthis have rejected these calls, responding instead with new offensives in Yemen and terrorist acts, such as those launched against Saudi Arabia last night,\u201d he complained.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Houthis were listed as terrorists by the Trump administration, but this designation was rescinded in the early days of the Biden administration, which has frequently <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/national-security\/2021\/03\/03\/exclusive-biden-admin-yemens-houthis-blocking-aid-after-being-delisted-as-terrorists\/\"><span>complained<\/span><\/a><span> about Houthi terrorism over the ensuing year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Biden administration has stubbornly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/foreignpolicy.com\/2022\/02\/16\/un-biden-houthis-terrorist-blacklist\/\"><span>resisted<\/span><\/a><span> calls to relist the Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization, including advice from some White House officials.
