The fee will roll out in the next few days. The company did not say whether the fee will last indefinitely.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIn a time of increased fuel costs across North America, we know that every cent counts, and we\u2019re hopeful this temporary fuel assistance will help offset some of the near-term challenges that shoppers are facing,\u201d Instacart\u2019s VP of operations and care Tom Maguire said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile shoppers on our platform tend to spend more time shopping and less time driving, we know that there is still an acute need to address rising gas prices and make sure we\u2019re supporting shoppers during this time,\u201d Maguire added.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Uber, Uber Eats, and Lyft all implemented a gas surcharge on their services, too, Protocol noted.<\/p>\n<p>AAA said last week that the <a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/declining-oil-price-pushes-pump-prices-down\/\">national average<\/a> for a gallon of regular gasoline was $4.28.<\/p>\n<p>The high prices are so detrimental to the American people that even liberal governors are calling on congressional lawmakers to suspend the federal gas tax, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/six-liberal-governors-ask-lawmakers-to-suspend-federal-gas-tax\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported Monday:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>The governors \u2014 five of whom are up for re-election in November \u2014 are Jared Polis of Colorado, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico, Tim Waltz of Minnesota, Tom Wolf of Pennsylvania, and Tony Evers of Wisconsin, all Democrats.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAt a time when people are directly impacted by rising prices on everyday goods, a federal gas tax holiday is a tool in the toolbox to reduce costs for Americans, and we urge you to give every consideration to this proposed legislation,\u201d the governors wrote to House and Senate leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis (FL) blasted Biden during a press conference last week over the growing inflation, which DeSantis dubbed as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-was-warned-about-this-desantis-wrecks-potus-on-bidenflation-predicts-more-pain-by-admins-actions\">Bidenflation<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe warned about this inflation last year,\u201d DeSantis said. \u201cThey came in and did the massive spending; the Fed has printed trillions and trillions of dollars, the biggest increase in the money supple that we\u2019ve seen in quite some time. Of course you\u2019re going to have inflation when that happens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s what\u2019s happened, and I don\u2019t see it ebbing anytime soon,\u201d the governor predicted. \u201cI think this is likely to be something that we\u2019re going to have to contend with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Republican said the way to provide Americans relief from these rising prices is to \u201creverse\u201d a lot of federal policies, which he said the Biden administration has \u201cnot shown an inclination to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMake no mistake about it, what you need to do is reverse those policies that are causing the inflation to begin with,\u201d he told the press.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy are we not producing more energy here in the United States?\u201d he queried, adding that we need more pipelines, natural gas, and permits for drilling.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of ANWR (Arctic National Wildlife Refuge), Alaska, DeSantis said \u201cthere\u2019s more oil and gas up there than in Saudi Arabia. It\u2019s a massive, massive opportunity and basically from the time Biden\u2019s come in, he said, \u2018No, no, no.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, of course that\u2019s going to cause [inflation], and it\u2019s not just fuel prices,\u201d the Republican explained. \u201cWhen energy prices are going up the way they are, that permeates the entire economy.
