He\u2019s a Grammy-Award-winning rap artist, a record producer, and a fashion designer. He\u2019s an entrepreneur, a songwriter, and a former presidential candidate. Ye is a visionary. He\u2019s one of the world\u2019s top-performing music artists with over 160 million records sold. He\u2019s a literal billionaire. But above all else, the 44-year-old Atlanta native is a father.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>West shares four children with ex-wife Kim Kardashian: North, 8, Saint, 6, Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 2. In December, the star purchased the house across the street from his ex, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/music\/why-kanye-west-bought-house-across-kim-kardashian-nothing-keeps-me-from-my-children\/)\"><span>reportedly<\/span><\/a><span> so he could keep a closer eye on his brood and not be so far from them when they were with their mom. Critics called it <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hotnewhiphop.com\/twitter-reacts-to-kanye-buying-house-next-to-kim-creepy-and-stalkerish-news.145260.html\"><span>creepy<\/span><\/a><span>; supporters <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eonline.com\/news\/1314501\/why-kanye-ye-west-really-bought-the-house-across-the-street-from-ex-kim-kardashian\"><span>called<\/span><\/a><span> it fatherly love.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But West\u2019s bid to remain a prominent figure in his children\u2019s lives did not end there.. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.complex.com\/pop-culture\/kanye-west-pete-davidson-feud-timeline\/mac-miller-ariana-grande\"><span>public<\/span><\/a><span> battle between him, Kardashian, and \u201cSNL\u201d comedian Pete Davidson has been making fans cringe for months, and mostly because of West\u2019s extreme words and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10621699\/Kanye-West-SUSPENDED-Instagram-24-hours-series-vile-attacks.html\"><span>actions<\/span><\/a><span>. Are the \u201cDonda\u201d rapper\u2019s ramblings simply the product of his bipolar disorder, or are they actually the desperate pleas of a man who believes in the sanctity of marriage and fears for his children\u2019s safety?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Maybe his behavior can all be traced back to the way in which West\u2019s journey to becoming a father began. During a political rally in 2020, West made the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/watch-kanye-west-kim-kardashian-saved-our-child-when-i-wanted-an-abortion-just-like-my-mother-saved-my-life\"><span>very personal admission<\/span><\/a><span> that he hadn\u2019t originally wanted his daughter, North, and had pressured Kardashian to get an abortion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSo even if my wife were to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into the world, even when I didn\u2019t want to,\u201d West said in July during the emotional speech. \u201cShe stood up, and she protected that child.\u201d Perhaps West\u2019s, at times, overbearing parenting style is his way of making up for that nearly catastrophic error.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>These days,t the \u201cJesus Walks\u201d star takes his role as a father very seriously. Discerning Ye\u2019s intentions, no matter their origin, is as simple as reading the lyrics to some of his songs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cNo, Daddy don\u2019t play, not when it come to they daughters \/ Don\u2019t do no yoga, don\u2019t do pilates \/ Just play piano and stick to karate,\u201d he raps in \u201cViolent Crimes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The song also references his then-wife\u2019s notoriously curvy body as West worries what men will think of his daughters when they grow up to inherit those same genes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI pray your body\u2019s draped more like mine \/ And not like your mommy\u2019s \/ Just bein\u2019 salty, but n***** is nuts \/ And I am a n****, I know what they want,\u201d he says in the song. \u201cI pray that you don\u2019t get it all at once \/ Curves under your dress, I know it\u2019s pervs all on the net \/ All in the comments, you wanna vomit \/ That\u2019s your baby, you love her to death,\u201d he continues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>During an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PmZjaYdS3fA&#038;t=759s\"><span>interview<\/span><\/a><span> with Jimmy Kimmel, West explained that he feels protective of all his children but is especially concerned about his girls. He even said having daughters changed his overall perspective on women, making him see them as people to \u201cnurture\u201d rather than \u201cconquer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>However, then he made a joke about still viewing pornography despite his altered views on the dignity of women.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Again in song lyrics, Ye expresses the different feelings he has about his sons compared to his daughters. In the 2016 song \u201cNo More Parties in LA,\u201d the rapper sings, \u201cI be worried \u2019bout my daughter, I be worried \u2019bout Kim \/ But Saint is baby \u2018Ye, I ain\u2019t worried \u2019bout him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Critics <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/voices-kanye-west-obsession-daughters-165145848.html\"><span>see<\/span><\/a><span> West\u2019s overprotectiveness as stifling and controlling under the guise of natural fatherly love. However, others have come to his defense. The rapper Consequence, for example, recently tweeted, \u201cKanye is a \u2018girl\u2019 Dad, North is his 1st born, Instinctually, he\u2019s just here to protect her, That should be respected no matter what.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Kanye is a &#8220;girl&#8221; Dad<\/p>\n<p>North is his 1st born <\/p>\n<p>Instinctually, he&#8217;s just here to protect her<\/p>\n<p>That should be respected no matter what<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Consequence (@ItsTheCons) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ItsTheCons\/status\/1503073367083073544?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 13, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>It\u2019s impossible to discuss all the drama with West and not at least mention his bipolar disorder, which gets <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/article\/kanye-west-mental-illness-bipolar-disorder\/\"><span>blamed<\/span><\/a><span> for a lot of the things he says about Kardashian and their kids. It\u2019s true that much of what Ye expresses publicly is hard to decipher. However, no one knows for sure how much of his rhetoric is bipolar-disorder-related and how much comes from the natural inclination he has to be a protective father.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>During a 2019 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/music\/kanye-west-opens-up-about-bipolar-diagnosis-episode-handcuffed\/\"><span>episode<\/span><\/a><span> of \u201cMy Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman,\u201d the \u201cFlashing Lights\u201d rapper got candid about what it was like to have an \u201cepisode.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhen you\u2019re in this state, you\u2019re hyper-paranoid about everything,\u201d West explained. \u201cEveryone \u2014 this is my experience, other people have different experiences \u2014 everyone now is an actor. Everything\u2019s a conspiracy. You feel the government is putting chips in your head. You feel you\u2019re being recorded. You feel all these things.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He continued, \u201cYou have this moment [where] you feel everyone wants to kill you.You pretty much don\u2019t trust anyone.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Unfortunately, the bipolar diagnosis has emboldened West\u2019s critics to assume any anti-mainstream statement he makes is a product of an \u201cepisode.\u201d Some of his statements probably are; but some may not be.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>All along, West has made no secret of wanting to reconcile with Kardashian and get their family back together, even as she made it clear she\u2019d moved on. But since their separation, the pair have had a hard time agreeing on co-parenting strategies. For example, Ye doesn\u2019t want his daughter, North, to be on TikTok while Kardashian insists it\u2019s fine because North is being monitored.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In February, West <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/story\/2022-02-04\/kim-kardashian-kanye-west-north-tiktok-video\"><span>shared<\/span><\/a><span> a screenshot of one of North\u2019s TikTok videos via Instagram and said, \u201cSince this is my first divorce I need to know what I should do about my daughter being put on tik tok against my will?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Daily Wire\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/kanye-west-thanks-candace-owens-for-saying-8-year-olds-shouldnt-have-tiktok\"><span>Candace Owens came out in support of West<\/span><\/a><span>, tweeting, \u201cThere is no 8 year old in the world that needs social media. Go color.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cKim is wrong on this one,\u201d Owens continued in a follow-up post. \u201cThe psychological effects of social media on young girls is real and documented. It\u2019s actually Kanye that is trying to protect his daughter in this regard and Kim is spinning this as \u2018obsession\u2019 and \u2018control.\u2019 There are other creative outlets for kids.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>To Kardashian, though, this was simply yet another way that West was trying to obsessively control her and their children. She took to social media to vehemently deny that TikTok was hurting their daughter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cKanye\u2019s constant attacks on me in interviews and on social media is actually more hurtful than any TikTok North might create,\u201d Kardashian <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PopCrave\/status\/1489635747355410442\/photo\/2\"><span>wrote<\/span><\/a><span> in her response.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAs the parent who is the main provider and caregiver for our children, I am doing my best to protect our daughter while also allowing her to express her creativity in the medium that she wishes with adult supervision \u2014 because it brings her happiness. Divorce is difficult enough on our children and Kanye\u2019s obsession with trying to control and manipulate our situation so negatively and publicly is only causing further pain for all.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The mom of four said she \u201cwanted nothing but a healthy and supportive coparenting relationship,\u201d and that she wanted all future communication to be private.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt is what is best for our children and it saddens me that Kanye continues to make it impossible every step of the way,\u201d Kardashian concluded. \u201cI wish to handle all matters regarding our children privately and hopefully he can finally respond to the third attorney he has had in the last year to resolve any issues amicably.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Regardless of how one feels about West\u2019s various comments, even his harshest critics have to admit he\u2019s been provoked. Recently, a screenshot of a text conversation between the rapper and Davidson showed the \u201cSNL\u201d star taunting West by sharing a photo of his naked chest and bragging he was, \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/in-bed-with-your-wife-pete-davidson-taunts-kanye-west\"><span>in bed with your wife<\/span><\/a><span>.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The rest of the conversation pivoted to Davidson encouraging Ye to get help for his mental issues, but after starting out with such a provocative picture, it\u2019s hard to see how the actor could expect West to respond rationally and calmly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The drama between Kardashian and West seems to be heating up, not cooling down, especially now that Kardashian\u2019s relationship with Davidson is getting more serious.
