That is not offensive, and neither is \u2018assimilation.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The terms \u201cillegal\u201d and \u201calien\u201d are part of the U.S. Code; 8 U.S. Code \u00a7 1325 \u2013 \u201cImproper entry by alien,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/8\/1325\">states<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>(a) Improper time or place; avoidance of examination or inspection; misrepresentation and concealment of facts<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Any&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-92903111-1485256781&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=title:8:chapter:12:subchapter:II:part:VIII:section:1325\">alien<\/a>&nbsp;who (1) enters or attempts to enter the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-2032517217-1201680101&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=title:8:chapter:12:subchapter:II:part:VIII:section:1325\">United States<\/a>&nbsp;at any time or place other than as designated by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-717612480-1201680039&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=title:8:chapter:12:subchapter:II:part:VIII:section:1325\">immigration officers<\/a>, or (2) eludes examination or inspection by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-717612480-1201680039&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=title:8:chapter:12:subchapter:II:part:VIII:section:1325\">immigration officers<\/a>, or (3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-2032517217-1201680101&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=title:8:chapter:12:subchapter:II:part:VIII:section:1325\">&nbsp;United States&nbsp;<\/a>by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>(b) Improper time or place; civil penalties Any&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-92903111-1485256781&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=title:8:chapter:12:subchapter:II:part:VIII:section:1325\">alien<\/a>&nbsp;who is apprehended while entering (or attempting to enter) the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-2032517217-1201680101&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=title:8:chapter:12:subchapter:II:part:VIII:section:1325\">United States<\/a>&nbsp;at a time or place other than as designated by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-717612480-1201680039&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=title:8:chapter:12:subchapter:II:part:VIII:section:1325\">immigration officers<\/a>&nbsp;shall be subject to a civil penalty of\u2014(1)at least $50 and not more than $250 for each such entry (or attempted entry); or (2) twice the amount specified in paragraph (1) in the case of an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-92903111-1485256781&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=title:8:chapter:12:subchapter:II:part:VIII:section:1325\">alien<\/a>&nbsp;who has been previously subject to a civil penalty under this subsection. Civil penalties under this subsection are in addition to, and not in lieu of, any criminal or other civil penalties that may be imposed.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>8 U.S. Code \u00a7 1365 \u2013 \u201cReimbursement of States for costs of incarcerating illegal aliens and certain Cuban nationals,\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/8\/1365\">states<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>(a)Reimbursement of States<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Subject to the amounts provided in advance in appropriation Acts, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-133271130-1485256779&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=\">Attorney General<\/a>&nbsp;shall reimburse a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-80204913-232886078&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=title:8:chapter:12:subchapter:II:part:IX:section:1365\">State<\/a>&nbsp;for the costs incurred by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-80204913-232886078&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=title:8:chapter:12:subchapter:II:part:IX:section:1365\">State<\/a>&nbsp;for the imprisonment of any illegal<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-92903111-1485256781&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=title:8:chapter:12:subchapter:II:part:IX:section:1365\">&nbsp;alien&nbsp;<\/a>or Cuban<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-2045486514-1201680063&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=title:8:chapter:12:subchapter:II:part:IX:section:1365\">&nbsp;national&nbsp;<\/a>who is convicted of a felony by such&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-80204913-232886078&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=title:8:chapter:12:subchapter:II:part:IX:section:1365\">State<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>(b)Illegal aliens convicted of a felony An illegal&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-92903111-1485256781&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=title:8:chapter:12:subchapter:II:part:IX:section:1365\">alien<\/a>&nbsp;referred to in subsection (a) is any&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-92903111-1485256781&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=title:8:chapter:12:subchapter:II:part:IX:section:1365\">alien<\/a>&nbsp;who is any&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-92903111-1485256781&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=title:8:chapter:12:subchapter:II:part:IX:section:1365\">alien<\/a>&nbsp;convicted of a felony who is in the United&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-80204913-232886078&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=\">States<\/a> unlawfully and\u2014(1)whose most recent entry into the United&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-80204913-232886078&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=\">States<\/a>&nbsp;was without inspection, or (2)whose most recent admission to the United&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-80204913-232886078&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=\">States<\/a>&nbsp;was as a nonimmigrant and\u2014(A) whose period of authorized stay as a nonimmigrant expired, or(B)whose unlawful status was known to the Government, before the date of the commission of the crime for which the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/definitions\/uscode.php?width=840&amp;height=800&amp;iframe=true&amp;def_id=8-USC-92903111-1485256781&amp;term_occur=999&amp;term_src=title:8:chapter:12:subchapter:II:part:IX:section:1365\">alien<\/a>&nbsp;is convicted.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
