Florida is poised to pass a parental rights law that is being distorted as anti-gay.<\/p>\n<p>The bottom line is: Is it appropriate for children from kindergarten, through third grade to be introduced to questions of sexual and gender identity? The media says yes. Parents (mostly) say no.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Jarrett Stepman of the Heritage Foundation addressed this issue in an\u00a0<a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2022\/03\/03\/dont-buy-medias-dont-say-gay-distortions-about-floridas-parental-rights-bill\/&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1647543152951000&#038;usg=AOvVaw08JO9LbSbhU9Vb2RCpaXuo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2022\/03\/03\/dont-buy-medias-dont-say-gay-distortions-about-floridas-parental-rights-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article<\/a> for The Daily Signal decrying the legacy media\u2019s distortions of Florida\u2019s bill. He notes, \u201cFor the crime of trying to protect young children from sexually explicit material in the classroom, Florida legislators are being crucified by the media.\u201d I interviewed him on the <a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/jerrynewcombe.com\/vocal-point-jarrett-stepman-22\/&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1647543152951000&#038;usg=AOvVaw1YrJq3Y3T3ptb-swR-paK7\" href=\"https:\/\/jerrynewcombe.com\/vocal-point-jarrett-stepman-22\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">radio<\/a> on this topic.<\/p>\n<p>The Florida bill is\u00a0<a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2022\/1557\/?Tab%3DBillHistory&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1647543152951000&#038;usg=AOvVaw3cwFCavH7Dc86VUGk-AmIa\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2022\/1557\/?Tab=BillHistory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">labeled<\/a> HB 1557. That numerical name is probably the only thing that the two major sides agree on about it.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the advantages of the major media and social media companies, which regularly censor any criticisms of the militant homosexual and transgender movement, people often hear only the one side of this debate.<\/p>\n<p>So the Florida law is falsely presented as some sort of attack on transgenders and homosexuals. But all the law does is bolster parents\u2019 rights in the matter.<\/p>\n<p>If some parent wants their children exposed to Drag Queen Story Hour or the like, it\u2019s a free country. But why should those who don\u2019t agree with that view have their children exposed to something they believe is wrong? They should not. And this bill favors parental rights over the \u201cprogressive\u201d bullies.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2022\/1557\/?Tab%3DBillHistory&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1647543152951000&#038;usg=AOvVaw3cwFCavH7Dc86VUGk-AmIa\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2022\/1557\/?Tab=BillHistory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bill<\/a>\u2019s opening words are: \u201cParental Rights in Education.\u201d It goes on to say that it aims to \u201creinforce fundamental right of parents to make decisions regarding upbringing &#038; control of their children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The law \u201cprohibits classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity in certain grade levels.\u201d What are those levels? Kindergarten through third grade. In other words, children generally nine years old and younger.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, Gov. Ron DeSantis\u00a0<a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/twitter.com\/RonDeSantisFL\/status\/1502314226005725189?ref_src%3Dtwsrc%255Etfw%257Ctwcamp%255Etweetembed%257Ctwterm%255E1502314226005725189%257Ctwgr%255E%257Ctwcon%255Es1_%26ref_url%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fcitizenfreepress.com%252Fbreaking%252Fnew-ad-from-desantis%252F&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1647543152951000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2IE9gEE5HAcqMLsJBcGMKG\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RonDeSantisFL\/status\/1502314226005725189?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1502314226005725189%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcitizenfreepress.com%2Fbreaking%2Fnew-ad-from-desantis%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">proclaimed<\/a>, \u201cThe media can\u2019t defend injecting sexual topics like transgenderism into classrooms for kindergarteners, so they concoct false narratives to try to divert attention from this fact in the hopes that people will not read the bill.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The biggest of those false narratives is the left\u2019s characterization&#8212;and the media\u2019s parroting&#8212;of it as the \u201cDon\u2019t Say Gay\u201d bill. Most who receive their news from the mainstream media have no idea that the bill (which does not mention the word \u201cgay\u201d or \u201chomosexuality\u201d anywhere in it) merely keeps sexualized topics out of the classrooms of kindergartners through third graders&#8212;where few sane people believe those topics belong in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>Controversy surrounding this bill raises many questions. The most important of them is: Who is responsible for the children\u2019s well-being, the parents or the state?<\/p>\n<p>The Bible\u00a0<a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search%3Ddeut%2B6%26version%3DESV&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1647543152951000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2_vV_IZLp0FjoYUOBDVVR0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=deut+6&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">says<\/a> that the parents are, and that\u00a0<a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search%3DGenesis%2B1%253A27%26version%3DESV&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1647543152951000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2bKubd4WjQUmAcqutc9tmB\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Genesis+1%3A27&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">God<\/a> has made us male and female.<\/p>\n<p>Biology says we are male and female. One or the other. For example, the National Institute for Health\u00a0<a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK222291\/&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1647543152951000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0QzjODs6vVx5gOH7B7aRzY\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK222291\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">notes<\/a>, \u201cThe biological differences between the sexes have long been recognized at the biochemical and cellular levels. Rapid advances in molecular biology have revealed the genetic and molecular bases of a number of sex-based differences in health and human disease.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In August 2020, I interviewed Tony Perkins, president of the\u00a0<a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.frc.org&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1647543152951000&#038;usg=AOvVaw1C5m3TYp4eGOVRtovXdsDw\" href=\"https:\/\/www.frc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Family Research Council<\/a>, who noted that one silver lining from the pandemic was that parents got to see, many for the first time, what their children were\u00a0<em>actually\u00a0<\/em>being taught in their children\u2019s schools.<\/p>\n<p>He told me, \u201cWhen you take a look at the sex ed curriculum, there is an effort to indoctrinate children, not only in sexual activity, but within the whole LGBTQ agenda in terms of creating sexual confusion among our children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I once\u00a0<a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/jerrynewcombe.com\/jesus-is-the-answer-for-our-age-of-gender-confusion\/&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1647543152951000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2Z1NLotEHZqVLEIAsKl7hl\" href=\"https:\/\/jerrynewcombe.com\/jesus-is-the-answer-for-our-age-of-gender-confusion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interviewed<\/a> Walt Heyer, a former transsexual. He had sex-reassignment surgery in 1983 because he believed he was a woman trapped in a man\u2019s body. For the first eight years as a \u201cwoman,\u201d he felt relieved. But then his depression came back and was even worse. When Jesus healed him, he embraced his original identity.<\/p>\n<p>Heyer now runs the organization\u00a0<a data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.sexchangeregret.com\/&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1647543152951000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2qrC1U4IAeY6SHc4p4d2dr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sexchangeregret.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sex Change Regret<\/a>. He notes that over 40% of those who have had \u201cgender reassignment surgery\u201d have attempted suicide.<\/p>\n<p>He added that gender dysphoria is a form of depression. And while puberty blockers and sex reassignment surgeries may provide temporary relief, they don\u2019t address the root issue: \u201cWhen you don\u2019t like who you are at the core of who you are, you\u2019re depressed about who you are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Why should parents, who are responsible for their children\u2019s education and well-being, have to pick up the pieces as our society recklessly destroys these little children and their futures?<\/p>\n<p>If it becomes law, I believe Florida\u2019s legislation will prove to be a step in the right direction for a culture mired in moral relativism.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Who should be in charge of what children learn at school&#8212;the parents or the state?
