But one of the \u201calternative energy\u201d sources he is promoting is on the skids, and solar power advocates say they need a government bailout.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Financial Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/5b86f249-dd21-487f-8109-eeadbfea2017?ftcamp=traffic\/partner\/feed_headline\/us_yahoo\/auddev\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Solar capacity installations in the fourth quarter last year were about 2.5 gigawatts, the lowest quarter of the year and down 43 per cent year-on-year, according to data from S&#038;P Global Market Intelligence. Now, the slowdown is stretching into 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0industry has been slammed\u00a0by a supply chain crunch, soaring commodity prices,\u00a0tariffs\u00a0and the Biden administration\u2019s trade restrictions on panels and other equipment suspected of coming from the\u00a0Xinjiang region of China\u00a0\u2014 a big cog in the sector\u2019s supply line.<\/p>\n<p>Costs for new large-scale solar projects were up 18 per cent last year, breaking a long run of significant cost declines, and more than 10 per cent of projects due online this year have been delayed or called off as problems for the sector have piled up, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), an industry lobby group, said in a recent report.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The solar sector wants Congress to pass long-term tax credits for solar projects and support domestic manufacturing of solar equipment to reduce the industry\u2019s reliance on China.
