During the address, a reporter asked Gerrard whether he was concerned about COVID-19 deaths happening at home in Queensland. He responded by saying that he was concerned and that his office had seen reports of people having a short period of illness followed by sudden death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s been reported elsewhere in Australia and around the world where it\u2019s myocarditis which I think I\u2019ve referred to on a previous occasion,\u201d said Gerrard. \u201cBut we are certainly keeping a close eye on that, particularly when there are deaths.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/01\/25\/fact-check-kerry-chant-covid-vaccine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did The Chief Health Officer Of New South Wales Celebrate Having \u2018Only 3 Deaths\u2019 In Children Attributed To The COVID Vaccine?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A review of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9Y5q7uxbRkE&#038;t=1347s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press conference<\/a> in its entirety makes clear these comments were in response to a question about deaths among COVID-19 patients, not among those who were vaccinated against the disease. At no point in his address does Gerrard state or suggest those vaccinated against COVID-19 are dying from myocarditis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe comments made by Dr. John Gerrard in the video were in response to a reporter\u2019s question about COVID-19 positive patients who were passing away at home,\u201d said a spokesperson for the Queensland Department of Health in an email to Check Your Fact. \u201cThe comments were not made in reference to people dying after receiving the COVID-19 vaccination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/vaccines\/safety\/myocarditis.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CDC<\/a>) states on its website that cases of myocarditis after vaccination have been reported, most frequently in \u201cmale adolescents and young adults.\u201d It also notes that most who have myocarditis recover quickly.
