And the question is, how do we deal with that?&#8221; Fauci told the news outlet.<\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/op-eds\/email-trail-shows-how-anthony-fauci-and-francis-collins-distorted-public-views-on-covid\">EMAIL TRAIL SHOWS HOW ANTHONY FAUCI AND FRANCIS COLLINS DISTORTED PUBLIC VIEWS ON COVID-19<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Fauci cited three factors attributed to fueling a rise in cases in <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/healthcare\/rise-of-omicron-subvariant-in-europe-and-uk-raises-prospect-of-us-surge\">Europe and the United Kingdom<\/a> that can already be seen in the United States: the <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/healthcare\/doctors-keep-an-eye-on-omicron-subvariant-as-it-rears-its-head-in-nyc\">BA.2<\/a> &#8220;stealth&#8221; subvariant of omicron, loosened restrictions, and diminishing protection from the vaccines already administered.<\/p>\n<p>As the number of cases in the U.S. has dropped significantly over the past several weeks, states and cities have continued to lift <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/the-six-blue-states-announcing-ends-to-mask-mandates\">mask<\/a> and <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/proposal-to-reinstate-newly-lifted-dc-vaccine-mandate-ditched-over-lack-of-votes\">vaccine mandates<\/a>, among other restrictions and guidance.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sooner or later, we will need a fourth,&#8221; Fauci said about a second booster shot to lawmakers. The outlet noted he said this may only apply to the elderly and people with underlying conditions, at first.<\/p>\n<p>Pfizer-BioNTech&#8217;s COVID-19 vaccine is a two-dose regimen, as is the vaccine from Moderna, while Johnson &amp; Johnson has a one-shot vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/vaccines\/booster-shot.html\">advises eligible individuals<\/a> who completed their Pfizer and Moderna vaccine series to get a booster shot after five months. Those who got the J&amp;J jab are advised to get boosted after two months.<\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>A total of 79,531,917 coronavirus cases have been reported in the U.S. to date, along with a total of 967,450 coronavirus-related deaths, according to the <i><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2021\/us\/covid-cases.html\">New York Times<\/a><\/i><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2021\/us\/covid-cases.html\"> Coronavirus Map and Tracker<\/a>. Within the past 14 days, there has been a 43% decrease in cases and a 31% decrease in deaths.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really in a transition stage. We are obviously going in the right direction,\u201d Fauci said. \u201cWe have to be really careful and not declare total victory prematurely.
