(Alex Wong\/Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Hawley shared an article penned by Jackson where she\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HawleyMO\/status\/1504221933046534146\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In the current climate of fear, hatred, and revenge associated with the release of convicted sex criminals, courts must be especially attentive to legislative enactments that \u201cuse[] public health and safety rhetoric to justify procedures that are, in essence, punishment and detention.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Hawley cited cases such as\u00a0<em>United States v. Chazin<\/em>, <em>United States v. Cooper<\/em>, <em>United States v. Downs<\/em>, <em>United States v. Sears<\/em>, and <em>United States v. Stewart<\/em> as examples of her leniency towards the sentencing of child porn sex offenders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn <em>United States v. Cooper<\/em>, in which the criminal had more than 600 images and videos and posted many on a public blog, the Guidelines called for a sentence of 151-188 months. Judge Jackson settled on 60 months, the lowest possible sentence allowed by law,\u201d Hawley\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HawleyMO\/status\/1504221951849635840\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn <em>United States v. Downs<\/em>, the perp posted multiple images to an anonymous instant messaging app, including an image of a child under the age of 5. The Guidelines recommended 70-87 months. Judge Jackson gave him the lowest sentence allowed by law, 60 months,\u201d he said in another\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HawleyMO\/status\/1504221954072629255\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hawley sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, where Democrat Senate Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY)\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sahilkapur\/status\/1486397643127504902?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1486397643127504902%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/01\/26\/chuck-schumer-joe-bidens-supreme-court-nominee-to-receive-prompt-hearing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0Jackson would have a \u201cprompt\u201d hearing.<\/p>\n<p>Hawley said the U.S. Sentencing Commission has refused to provide the committee with all of Jackson\u2019s records from her time spent there. The Missouri Senator called Jackson\u2019s record \u201cdisturbing,\u201d and added, \u201csending child predators to jail shouldn\u2019t be controversial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also called out Jackson for wondering if there is a type of \u201cless-serious child pornography offender.\u201d Hawley shared a transcript where Jackson\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HawleyMO\/status\/1504221942903197699\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>And so I\u2019m wondering whether you could say that there is a that there could be a less-serious child pornography offender who is engaging in the type of conduct in the group experience level because their motivation is the challenge, or to use the technology? They\u2019re very sophisticated technologically, but they aren\u2019t necessarily that interested in the child pornography piece of it?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Jackson also claims she \u201cmistakingly assumed that child pornography offenders are pedophiles,\u201d in another transcript Hawley\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HawleyMO\/status\/1504221947063943174\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shared<\/a>\u00a0to Twitter. \u201cIn every single child porn case for which we can find records, Judge Jackson deviated from the federal sentencing guidelines in favor of child porn offenders,\u201d Hawley wrote.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
