Yet the Democrat-led Congress has bucked tax relief over worries Biden needs the revenue to doll out among states. Congressional inaction may hurt the\u00a0governors\u2019 reelection chances.<\/p>\n<p>The Democrat governors of Pennsylvania, Michigan,\u00a0New Mexico,\u00a0Colorado, Minnesota, Wisconsin are all up for reelection in November.\u00a0According to prediction odds, Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IAPolls2022\/status\/1503869551917903882\">have<\/a> an excellent chance of toppling many of the Democrat governors who have called for a gas tax break. Increasing about a dollar from when Biden assumed office until Russia invaded Ukraine, gas prices have since additionally risen about another 70 cents. Wednesday\u2019s national average price per gallon <a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\">was<\/a> $4.30, according to AAA.<\/p>\n<p>The average gas prices in battleground states are also very high, such as in Pennsylvania ($4.39), Michigan ($4.21),\u00a0New Mexico ($4.17),\u00a0Colorado ($3.96), Minnesota ($3.94), and Wisconsin ($3.99).<\/p>\n<p>Biden and the media have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2022\/03\/15\/poll-only-37-percent-approve-joe-biden-blaming-putin-soaring-inflation-gas-prices\/\">blamed<\/a> the outrageous gas prices on Russian President Vladimir Putin instead of their anti-American energy independence stance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemocrats didn\u2019t cause this problem. Vladimir Putin did,\u201d Biden claimed last week. \u201cIt\u2019s going to go up,\u201d Biden\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/the-media\/2022\/03\/09\/media-adopts-bidens-strategy-of-blaming-putin-for-gigantic-gas-prices\/\">noted<\/a>. \u201cCan\u2019t do much right now. Russia is responsible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But people with knowledge of the fossil fuel industry believe the increased gas prices are a result of red tape. In particular,\u00a0Bloomberg\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-11-09\/cost-of-capital-widens-for-fossil-fuel-producers-green-insight\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">reported<\/a>\u00a0the cost of funding\u00a0fossil fuel projects is ten percentage points higher than it was before Biden\u2019s presidency.
