\/><\/div>\n<p>The dark money mothership connecting many of the Left\u2019s most powerful groups\u00a0is distancing itself from the left-wing judicial activism group Demand Justice, claiming that it \u201cdoes not work for Demand Justice in any capacity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Arabella Advisors, an influential left-wing consulting organization <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2021\/11\/arabella-advisors-money-democrats\/620553\/\">dubbed by The Atlantic<\/a>\u00a0\u201cThe Massive Progressive Dark-Money Group You\u2019ve Never Heard Of,\u201d\u00a0appears to have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arabellaadvisors.com\/company\/arabella-basic-facts\/\">quietly issued a memo<\/a> in February distancing itself from Demand Justice.<\/p>\n<p>That memo followed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/arabella-advisors-supreme-court-dark-money\">accusations<\/a> from Judicial Crisis Network that Arabella is the mastermind behind dark money trails to the Supreme Court as well as smear campaigns against justices who will not cooperate with leftist agendas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArabella Advisors does not work with Demand Justice, which has been an independent organization since May 2021,\u201d spokesman Steve Samson told The Daily Wire on Wednesday evening. \u201cWe updated the page you referenced on our website in February of this year to help clear up misconceptions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the February statement, Arabella\u00a0pushed back on \u201cthe implication that Arabella is responsible for\u201d Demand Justice\u2019s work, accusing both Judicial Crisis Network and the consulting business CRC Advisors of spreading false claims.<\/p>\n<p>Demand Justice is a \u201ccompletely independent nonprofit organization,\u201d Arabella said, quoting a Washington Post column <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/04\/hypocrisy-watch-dark-money-groups-complain-about-dark-money\/\">suggesting<\/a> Demand Justice is the \u201cliberal dark-money equivalent of the Judicial Crisis Network.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Arabella Advisers described itself as a \u201cconsulting business that supports philanthropy,\u201d promising that it does not \u201cpursue a particular ideology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile some of our clients\u2019 interests are more visible than others, taken together they span the range of issues facing our country and the world,\u201d the statement said. \u201cWe are often unaware of our clients\u2019 political perspectives, as politics often has no bearing on the work we do to support their philanthropy.\u201d\u00a0<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When a February <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/01\/29\/us\/politics\/democrats-dark-money-donors.html\">New York Times article examined<\/a> the massive dark money contributions opposing former President Donald Trump\u2019s election, it found that Arabella\u2019s network of progressive nonprofits spent almost $1.2 billion in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>That includes paying Arabella $46.6 million in management fees, the Times reported.<\/p>\n<p>But Arabella\u2019s spokesman Sampson downplayed the group\u2019s role in all this to the Times, suggesting that rather than acting as a strategizing powerhouse, Arabella was providing administrative services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe work for the nonprofit, not the other way around,\u201d he told the Times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite frequent claims to the contrary by JCN and others,\u00a0Arabella Advisors works for our fiscal sponsor clients, not the other way around,\u201d the organization insisted in its February statement. \u201cThe nonprofits we work for make their own decisions on their strategies, programmatic work, and fundraising.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to The Daily Wire, Judicial Crisis Network President Carrie Severino again accused the \u201cradical dark money groups in Arabella\u2019s network\u201d of undermining the Supreme Court and the rule of law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do agree with them that it is important to protect the free speech rights of citizens who give anonymously to the causes they believe\u00a0in,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Caitlin Sutherland, executive director of Americans for Public\u00a0Trust, told The Daily Wire in a statement Wednesday that it\u2019s no surprise Arabella is \u201con the defensive\u201d regarding Demand Justice, accusing Arabella of directing \u201cover a billion dollars to liberal causes and propped up Demand Justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith alums in key White House positions and a shortlist handed to President Biden, they\u2019ve been executing their agenda since day one,\u201d Sutherland said. \u201cAnyone suggesting there isn\u2019t any linkage isn\u2019t being\u00a0serious.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a comment from The Daily Wire, was initially established as a project of \u00a0the Sixteen Thirty Fund, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2021\/11\/arabella-advisors-money-democrats\/620553\/\">described by The Atlantic<\/a> as the \u201cindisputable heavyweight of Democratic dark money\u201d and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.arabellaadvisors.com\/expertise\/fiscal-sponsorship\/\">administered<\/a> by Arabella Advisors.<\/p>\n<p>Demand Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/progressive-demand-justice-group-spin-off-c68f3cf4-3217-4d24-b52c-ab4826305130.html\">broke off<\/a> from Sixteen Thirty Fund and registered as nonprofit corporations over the makeup of the federal judiciary\">is behind<\/a> multiple different campaigns to elevate, confirm, or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/regulation\/court-battles\/547355-progressive-group-ramps-up-pressure-on-justice-breyer-to-retire\">intimidate<\/a>\u00a0justices.<\/p>\n<p>Axios <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/progressives-scotus-confirmation-spending-f45f2d0a-f977-43d9-972d-effb4b55a49e.html\">reported March 6<\/a> that Demand Justice will be leading the fight to nominate Judge\u00a0Ketanji Brown Jackson, noting that Demand Justice had already announced a $1 million ad campaign supporting the prospective justice and reportedly plans to dump much more money into her nomination.<\/p>\n<p>Demand Justice \u00a0has a projected budget of $7.5 million for 2022, Axios reported, and the affiliated charity Demand Justice Initiative reported to the IRS that it will bring in $4.2 million in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>All of those funds will be directed to allied organizations including Demand Justice\u2019s advocacy arm, according to Axios.<\/p>\n<p>Filings examined by the publication show that The Nation justice correspondent Elie Mystal sits on Demand Justice Initiative\u2019s board of directors.
