Women may now receive abortion drugs by mail.<\/p>\n<p>The move was deeply criticized by pro-life lawmakers and activists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery life is sacred: the lives of mothers and the lives of the unborn,\u201d Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops\u2019 Committee on Pro-Life Activities, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usccb.org\/news\/2021\/us-bishops-pro-life-chairman-denounces-fda-decision-chemical-abortion-pill\">said at the time<\/a>. \u201cNot only does this decision further the tragic taking of unborn lives but it does little to care for the well-being of women in need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFar from the accompaniment that women in crisis pregnancies deserve, this decision would leave women alone in the midst of trauma, often without any medical attention or follow up care,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>House Democrats are now pushing Becerra to make abortion drugs even cheaper and more accessible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow that the in-person dispensing requirement for mifepristone has been eliminated, the federal government must continue to use every tool at its disposal to ensure that medication abortion is accessible, affordable, and convenient for patients who seek it,\u201d the Tuesday letter said, \u201cincluding by facilitating the dispensing and safe provision of care via clinics, mail-order pharmacies, retail pharmacies, the mail and other forms of delivery, as well as telehealth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers asked to discuss this \u201curgent work\u201d with\u00a0members of the Reproductive Health Care Access Task Force, according to the letter, claiming that giving women more abortion drugs helps remove financial burdens for these women.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFacilitating access to medication abortion care is crucial to advancing reproductive justice,\u201d the women wrote in the letter.<\/p>\n<p>The push for increased access to abortions-by-mail comes\u00a0in the shadow of <em>Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/em>, the Supreme Court case involving a 2018 Mississippi law banning abortions after 15 weeks, addressing whether bans on abortion before fetal viability are constitutional.<\/p>\n<p>It directly challenges the Supreme Court\u2019s monumental <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> decision. Should <em>Roe v.
