He did not fire the weapon at reporters.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Facebook image shows a uniformed man sitting at a desk and drawing the string of a slingshot back. \u201cNewly appointed Uganda police spokesman hits News reporter with a caterpult (sic) for asking irrelevant question,\u201d reads text included in the photo.<\/p>\n<p>The post\u2019s claim is inaccurate. A reverse image search revealed the photo can be found in an April 2021 article published by Ugandan news outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.ug\/police-probes-source-motive-of-imported-catapults\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Independent<\/a>, which identifies the man as \u201cPolice spokesperson Fred Enanga.\u201d The article explains that Enanga was demonstrating how to operate the slingshot but does not mention anything about him firing it at reporters. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2021\/01\/16\/fact-check-young-people-stopping-police-ballot-box-uganda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Photo Show Young People Stopping A Police Officer From Stealing A Ballot Box During Uganda\u2019s 2021 Presidential Election?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The photo was taken from an April 2021 press conference Ugandan police held to discuss the danger of slingshots, which the police claim criminals were smuggling into the country. A portion of the press conference was shared on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CdBnw_fF1pU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YouTube<\/a> by the <a href=\"https:\/\/ubc.go.ug\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Uganda Broadcasting Corporation<\/a> with a title that reads, \u201cUGANDAN POLICE TIGHTEN VIGILANCE AGAINST CATAPULT GANGS.\u201d<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>The footage shared on YouTube shows Enanga pulling the string of the slingshot back and letting it go but there is no projectile loaded into the device. At no point does Enanga fire the weapon at reporters.
