The new bill would further limit abortions, allowing private citizens the ability to file civil lawsuits against those who perform an abortion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis bill is modeled directly after the legislation passed in Texas last year. Abortions since that bill has been passed have dropped 60% in Texas,\u201d Republican Rep. Rebecca Alexander, the bill\u2019s sponsor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/newsfront\/us-abortion-tennessee\/2022\/03\/15\/id\/1061337\/?oRef=thehill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> a House subcommittee on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The House panel has advanced the bill as introduced, though it would need to pass in both the state\u2019s House and Senate before it could be be signed into law by the governor.<\/p>\n<p>The recent Texas law has led to widespread criticism from abortion activists, however, the Supreme Court has allowed the legal measure to stand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cThe U.S. Supreme Court has allowed the Texas law to remain in place until a court challenge is decided on its merits. The Texas Supreme Court ruled against abortion providers last week, dealing what many consider to be the final blow to their legal challenges,\u201d USA Today\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2022\/03\/14\/idaho-abortion-ban-texas-brad-little\/7043235001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee\u2019s move follows the Idaho House of Representatives, which passed a new bill on Monday to ban abortions after six weeks of pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Bill 1309, known as the \u201cFetal Heartbeat, Preborn Child Protection Act,\u201d passed on Monday in a 51-14 vote. The bill has been sent to Republican Gov. Brad Little\u2019s desk to sign.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/idaho-passes-texas-style-six-week-abortion-ban-law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>The bill was passed with strong support in the Republican-led state government.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe heard in testimony in the committee; we heard in testimony here today that this will end many abortions in Idaho,\u201d the bill\u2019s sponsor, Republican Rep. Steven Harris\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/idahocapitalsun.com\/2022\/03\/14\/texas-style-abortion-bill-heads-to-idaho-gov-brad-littles-desk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cLet\u2019s save some babies.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Republican state Rep. Barbara Ehardt, who co-sponsored the legislation, also spoke on behalf of reducing abortions in her state.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAbortion is not a constitutional right,\u201d Ehardt\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/14\/abortion-ban-idaho-texas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cThe Supreme Court in 1973 did something that was never allowed in the first place.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In addition to Idaho, South Dakota introduced a similar \u201cheartbeat\u201d bill announced by Republican Gov. Kristi Noem on March for Life Day in January.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery human life is unique and beautiful from the moment it is conceived. Every life is worthy of our protection, worthy of the right to live,\u201d Noem said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sd.gov\/newsitem.aspx?id=28861\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> regarding the announcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope that this year\u2019s March for Life will be the last and that the Supreme Court will finally protect every unborn life. But until that comes to pass, these bills will ensure that both unborn children and their mothers are protected in South Dakota,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio introduced similar legislation in November.
