It also requires all employees, contractors, and volunteers who come into contact with children receive the COVID-19 vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>An amendment offered by Sen. Mike Braun (R-IN) to the PREVENT Pandemics Act <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/15\/mitt-romney-just-voted-to-keep-masking-two-year-olds\/\">would<\/a> \u201cprevent HHS from implementing or enforcing their regulations regarding mask or vaccination protections in the Head Start program again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rachelbovard\/status\/1503786467235180554\">Video footage<\/a> of the vote shows Romney became the only Republican member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee to vote against the measure \u2014 including Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Susan Collins (R-ME), who frequently deviate from the Republican mainstream. The former Republican standard bearer joined all HELP committee Democrats in striking down Braun\u2019s amendment by a 12-10 vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat a disgrace,\u201d Donald Trump Jr. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DonaldJTrumpJr\/status\/1503845325634781187\">tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShame on @MittRomney and every senator in this room who just voted to keep toddlers in masks,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kelseybolar\/status\/1503788638437584896\">wrote<\/a> Kelsey Bolar of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iwf.org\/\">Independent Women\u2019s Forum<\/a>. \u201cI am happy to bring my 2-year-old to meet with any one of you to show you how insane it is to ask parents to cover their 2-year-olds faces with a worthless piece of cloth.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Mitt Romney is the only Senate HELP Committee Republican to join Democrats in voting to allow federal mask mandates for toddlers. The World Health Organization has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/emergencies\/diseases\/novel-coronavirus-2019\/question-and-answers-hub\/q-a-detail\/q-a-children-and-masks-related-to-covid-19\">stated<\/a>: \u201cChildren aged <strong>5 years and under<\/strong> do not need to wear a mask.\u201d (Emphasis in original.) The European Centre for Disease Control <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecdc.europa.eu\/en\/covid-19\/questions-answers\/questions-answers-school-transmission\">states<\/a>\u00a0mask-wearing is \u201cnot recommended for students\u201d in primary school, exempting all children under the age of 12.<\/p>\n<p>Numerous studies have revealed the dearth of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/what-does-the-science-actually-say-about-face-masks-for-children\">science behind mask mandates for children<\/a>, especially toddlers. Even if masking were the best option, it would be impossible to find a respirator that fits children that young. Public health experts have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/cnn-medical-expert-doubles-down-that-cloth-masks-were-never-appropriate-for-covid-19\">admitted<\/a> that \u201ccloth masks are not appropriate for this pandemic,\u201d and while researchers believe that N95 respirators offer the greatest protection against the transmission of COVID-19, the FDA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/medical-devices\/personal-protective-equipment-infection-control\/n95-respirators-surgical-masks-face-masks-and-barrier-face-coverings#:%7E:text=N95s%20respirators%20regulated%20under%20product,specific%20diseases%20or%20infections%2C%20or\">notes<\/a> that \u201cN95 respirators are not designed for children \u2026 a proper fit cannot be achieved on children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democratic governors began\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/democratic-governors-loosen-mask-mandates\">rolling back local mask mandates<\/a> earlier this year, stating that \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fact-check-did-the-science-really-change-on-mask-mandates\">the science has changed<\/a>.\u201d Still,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mchdata.com\/covid19\/schoolclosings\">37%<\/a> of all U.S. public school districts still require compulsory masking of all students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s time to get our lives back especially based upon science and not the political science,\u201d said Braun on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Romney\u2019s lone vote became his latest deviation into Democratic ranks. On Tuesday, Romney also voted against a measure introduced by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) to abolish mask mandates on public transportation. \u201cThe resolution <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/15\/senate-votes-repeal-cdc-mask-mandate-public-transportation-rand-paul-resolution\/\">garnered bipartisan support<\/a>, resulting in a 57-40 vote with eight Democrats voting in favor of the resolution,\u201d The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/senate-votes-to-repeal-mask-mandate-for-planes-public-transportation\">reported<\/a>. \u201cRepublican Utah Sen. Mitt Romney was the only Republican to vote against the resolution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since his election to the U.S. Senate from his newly adopted home state of Utah, Mitt Romney has continually acted as a gadfly.
