The White House also <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/10\/21\/bidens-white-house-colluded-with-school-boards-association-to-launch-attack-on-parents\/\">colluded<\/a> with NSBA President Viola Garcia and CEO Chip Slaven to craft the text of the letter before sending it out without approval from most state school boards associations.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney General Merrick Garland then used this letter as <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/10\/27\/merrick-garland-says-hell-keep-targeting-parents-even-after-school-board-group-apologized-for-its-bogus-domestic-terrorism-claims\/\">leverage<\/a> to direct the FBI and state attorneys to address \u201ca disturbing spike in harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence against school administrators, board members, teachers, and staff who participate in the vital work of running our nation\u2019s public schools.\u201d Later, he <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/10\/21\/ag-merrick-garland-admits-federal-war-on-parents-sprang-from-school-boards-letter-not-evidence\/\">admitted<\/a> that the basis for potentially criminalizing parents who simply speak up at school board meetings came from the letter the Biden administration requested, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/10\/07\/school-board-groups-gripes-about-parents-dont-justify-federal-domestic-terrorism-investigations\/\">not real evidence<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Shortly after the scandal surfaced, the Missouri School Boards Association\u00a0joined dozens of other state groups in <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/viewerng\/viewer?url=https:\/\/themissouritimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/MSBA-letter-THE-MISSOURI-TIMES.pdf&#038;hl=en\">withdrawing its membership<\/a>\u00a0from the NSBA in late October after claiming the national organization \u201cdemonstrated it does not currently align with MSBA\u2019s guiding principles of local governance\u201d by <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/10\/26\/missouri-breaks-from-national-school-boards-association-over-inflammatory-letter-targeting-parents\/\">partnering with the White House<\/a> to target parents. <\/p>\n<p>The Missouri AG\u2019s lawsuit, however, exposes that the MSBA knew about the infamous \u201cdomestic terrorism\u201d letter and even expressed public support for it via Twitter and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/news\/politics-government\/article254784407.html\">press<\/a>. It wasn\u2019t until the MSBA faced backlash from parents and was petitioned for information about the NSBA letter by Schmitt in early October that it backtracked its praise for the Biden administration. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter MSBA received the Sunshine Law request from the Attorney General\u2019s Office, but before its first response to the Attorney General\u2019s Office, MSBA for the first time publicly distanced itself from NSBA,\u201d the lawsuit states.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit also alleges that the MSBA concealed information about critical race theory in Missouri schools and details about its instructions for districts to oppose state laws banning mask mandates in schools. <\/p>\n<p>As a result of MSBA\u2019s stubborn lack of cooperation, Schmitt demanded that the court order that any relevant records be turned over to the public and asked that the MSBA be penalized for knowingly violating the law. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Jordan Boyd is a staff writer at The Federalist and co-producer of The Federalist Radio Hour.
