But I will say that the president is somebody throughout his career who has advocated for smart gun safety measures. He has not afraid of standing up to the NRA. He\u2019s done it multiple times and won on background checks and a range of issues. And it is a priority to him on a personal level, but I don\u2019t have a prediction for you, or preview for you on a timeline of a package, and certainly not what it will look like and how it goes through Congress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>WATCH:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;He&#8217;s not afraid of standing up to the NRA, he&#8217;s done it multiple times and won.&#8221;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PressSec?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@PressSec<\/a> tells reporters that gun control is a personal priority for <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoeBiden?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@JoeBiden<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/voNwPwHhFy\">pic.twitter.com\/voNwPwHhFy<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Washington Examiner (@dcexaminer) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dcexaminer\/status\/1361734206598967297?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 16, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Later in the press conference, a second reporter asked Psaki,&nbsp;\u201cDoes the president still plan to take executive action on gun\u201d control?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president has a range of actions at his disposal,\u201d Psaki responded. \u201cHe hasn\u2019t ruled out either of those options.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The question came after Biden called on Congress late last week to \u201cenact commonsense gun law reforms, including requiring background checks on all gun sales, banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and eliminating immunity for gun manufacturers who knowingly put weapons of war on our streets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-to-congress-enact-major-restrictions-on-constitutionally-protected-second-amendment-rights\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>In the statement, Biden\u2019s call for \u201cbanning assault weapons\u201d likely amounts to calling for a ban on semi-automatic firearms, and there was no language included in the statement about allowing gun owners who currently own those weapons to be able to keep those weapons. If gun owners are not allowed to keep those specific semi-automatic firearms under a Biden ban, that would effectively amount to a mandatory gun confiscation-type program.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Biden\u2019s call on Congress to enact legislation that would strip gun manufacturers of immunity from lawsuits who \u201cknowingly put weapons of war on our streets\u201d is essentially a backdoor way of trying to bankrupt the gun industry or force them to drastically change the types of weapons they are willing to sell.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>When gun control activists use the term \u201cweapons of war,\u201d they are generally using it in such a way as to portray the weapons that they want to ban as \u201cweapons\u201d that are used in \u201cwar,\u201d as in used by militaries. However, this is inaccurate because the types of weapons that gun control activists are referring to, usually AR-15-style rifles, are not used in war.
