The incident, which happened around the same time as national anti-racism protests over the death of George Floyd while in the custody of the Minneapolis Police Department, went viral and became emblematic of the \u201cinstitutionalized racism\u201d issues demonstrators were trying to address.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmy Cooper told Christian Cooper that she planned to tell police that \u2018there\u2019s an African American man threatening my life,\u2019 potentially putting Christopher in danger of police brutality. In the video, Christian responds, \u2018Please tell them whatever you like,&#8217;\u201d the Daily Wire noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is an African American man. I am in Central Park. He is recording me and threatening myself and my dog,\u201d Cooper could be heard reporting to the dispatcher, according to the report. \u201cI\u2019m sorry, I can\u2019t hear \u2026 I\u2019m being threatened by a man in the Ramble, please send the cops immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cooper was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/central-park-karen-who-called-cops-on-black-birdwatcher-charged-with-filing-false-police-report\">quickly labeled \u201cracist\u201d by New York City mayor<\/a> Bill de Blasio, fired from her job, and charged with the misdemeanor reporting offense.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday our office initiated prosecution of Amy Cooper,\u201d New York City prosecutors said in a statement at the time. \u201cOur office will provide the public with additional information as the case proceeds. At this time I would like to encourage anyone who has been the target of false reporting to contact our office. We are strongly committed to holding perpetrators of this conduct accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFalse reporting\u201d is listed as \u201ca class A misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of one year in jail, three years on probation, or a $1,000 fine\u201d in the New York City penal code.<\/p>\n<p>The man Cooper allegedly threatened, Christopher Cooper, told media last summer that he\u2019d prefer Ms. Cooper\u2019s life not be \u201ctorn apart\u201d told the New York Times that he would prefer Americans move on from the incident to bigger issues of racial justice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am far more outraged by the U.S. Congress, which continues to deny the mostly Black and brown people of the District of Columbia statehood, and the representation every American deserves, than by anything Amy Cooper did,\u201d he said. \u201cThat gross racial injustice could be fixed by Congress now, today, and that is what people should be focused on, not last year\u2019s events in Central Park.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
