Reynoldsburg assistant superintendent David Baker tells Axios. &#8220;To have this center available to families will help close some of those achievement gaps down the road.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>How it works:<\/strong> Typically in converted classrooms, health care workers conveniently offer students anything a primary care doctor does, from screenings to vaccination. Some also offer dental and vision care.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Schools can coordinate travel between buildings, helping families overcome transportation barriers and busy schedules.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>By the numbers: <\/strong>Central Ohio providers will receive about $7.75 million from the state  \u2014 $4.35 million to PrimaryOne Health, $3.25 million to Nationwide Children&#8217;s  and $150,000 to Whitehall&#8217;s Heart of Ohio Family Health Center.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zoom in: <\/strong>Reynoldburg&#8217;s vision center will be an expansion to an <a class=\"gtmContentClick\" data-vars-link-text=\"existing primary care center\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.reyn.org\/NationwideChildrensCareConnection.aspx\" data-vars-content-id=\"f0d006cf-8f63-48c5-9036-4ff37d65ff0e\" data-vars-headline=\"Ohio invests $26 million in school health centers\" data-vars-event-category=\"story\" data-vars-sub-category=\"story\" data-vars-item=\"in_content_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reyn.org\/NationwideChildrensCareConnection.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">existing primary care center<\/a>, <a class=\"gtmContentClick\" data-vars-link-text=\"one of 14\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.nationwidechildrens.org\/specialties\/school-based-health-services-care-connection\" data-vars-content-id=\"f0d006cf-8f63-48c5-9036-4ff37d65ff0e\" data-vars-headline=\"Ohio invests $26 million in school health centers\" data-vars-event-category=\"story\" data-vars-sub-category=\"story\" data-vars-item=\"in_content_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationwidechildrens.org\/specialties\/school-based-health-services-care-connection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one of 14<\/a> Nationwide Children&#8217;s operates.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The hospital will also launch a new center for Columbus City Schools to provide primary care and serve students with complex medical needs at Fort Hayes Career Center, senior director of school health services Mary Kay Irwin tells Axios.<\/li>\n<li>PrimaryOne,<strong> <\/strong>meanwhile, will establish its first two centers: one in Columbus&#8217; Global Academy, which serves immigrants and refugees, and one in a Groveport Madison school district bus depot, which CEO Charleta B. Tavares says will be renovated as<strong> <\/strong>part of a larger-scale community wellness center project.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s next: <\/strong>The new facilities are expected to open this time next year, officials say.
