Energy prices went up as a result. The electric grid struggled to keep up with the need, which made some utilities enforce blackouts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/02\/16\/energy-prices-jump-as-millions-left-without-power-in-texas.html\">CNBC<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/?symbol=@NG.1\">Henry Hub natural gas futures<\/a>&nbsp;jumped 6.7% to trade at $3.106 per million British thermal units.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/?symbol=@RB.1\">Gasoline futures<\/a>&nbsp;advanced more than 4%.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe storm that has crippled the Midwest and North East was much worse than expected,\u201d said Jeff Kilburg, CEO at KKM Financial. \u201cFrigid temps and speculators caught short are dramatically moving futures prices higher.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>President of Texas-based Lipow Oil Associates, Andy Lipow, said that out of the 2.6 million Texans who didn\u2019t have power on Monday, only 70,000 were affected by downed power lines and trees. His estimate is that the production of a million barrels of crude oil per day has been stopped, roughly 40% to 50% of natural gas production in the Permian Basin shut in, and about 50% of wind power production is not working due to frozen blades.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/nearly-half-of-texas-wind-turbines-frozen-in-winter-storm-limiting-states-power-output\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported that \u201cnearly half of the state\u2019s wind turbines were frozen in a winter storm over the weekend\u2026Officials have said that the strong winds from the storm have helped spin wind turbines at a faster rate in other parts of the state, helping to make up for some of the loss of power.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Northern Mexico has also been affected by the situation in Texas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/02\/16\/968230163\/millions-without-power-in-texas-northern-mexico-as-blackouts-and-bitter-cold-con\">NPR<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>The power supply outages in Texas affected millions of people across the border in northern Mexico, where The Associated Press reported almost 5 million customers were left in the dark.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Mexico\u2019s Federal Electricity Commission <a href=\"https:\/\/app.cfe.mx\/Aplicaciones\/OTROS\/Boletines\/boletin?i=2105\">said<\/a> the blackouts were tied to frozen natural gas pipelines from Texas that supply private power plants in northern Mexico.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>President Joe Biden declared a state of emergency for Texas on Sunday, and Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/02\/16\/968230163\/millions-without-power-in-texas-northern-mexico-as-blackouts-and-bitter-cold-con\">reportedly<\/a> issued a disaster declaration for all 254 counties on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Abbott <a href=\"https:\/\/gov.texas.gov\/news\/post\/governor-abbott-sends-additional-resources-to-local-officials-throughout-texas\">sent<\/a> additional resources to parts of Texas.<\/p>\n<p>The National Guard has also been deployed by Abbott and the Texas Military Department in order to \u201cconduct welfare checks and to assist local authorities in transitioning Texans in need to one of the 135 local warming centers that the state has helped established across Texas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/alerts.weather.gov\/cap\/tx.php?x=1\">National Weather Service<\/a>, a winter storm warning and winter weather advisory will continue for Texas into Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><em><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
