He thinks it\u2019s more evidence of systemic racism in the judicial system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConvicted felon Jussie Smollett, who is currently serving a five-month prison term for falsely claiming to police that he was the victim of a hate crime hoax that he staged, had messages appear on his Instagram account on Saturday proclaiming his innocence and stating that he should be let out of prison even if people don\u2019t think he\u2019s innocent,\u201d The Daily Wire<a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/jussie-smolletts-instagram-account-starts-posting-messages-you-dont-have-to-believe-in-his-innocence-to-believe-he-should-be-free\/\"> reported<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Last December, Smollett was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-jussie-smollett-found-guilty-on-multiple-counts-in-hate-crime-hoax-case\">convicted<\/a>\u00a0by a jury on five counts of felony disorderly conduct for making false reports over a January 2019 incident in which the actor claimed to be the victim of a hate crime, as <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/chicago-vindicated-after-jussie-smollett-sentenced-for-malicious-hoax-hate-crime-mayor-says\/\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported, adding, \u201cHe told police that two men attacked him just after 2 a.m. outside of a Subway, tossing a noose around his neck and throwing an unknown substance on him. The two men were later identified as acquaintances of Smollett and said the actor had paid them to stage the hoax attack.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Associated Press\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Entertainment\/wireStory\/timeline-events-jussie-smollett-reported-attack-83357422\">highlighted<\/a>\u00a0the history of Smollett\u2019s journey toward jail:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cFeb. 16, 2019: Police say the investigation has \u201cshifted\u201d after detectives questioned the brothers, and request a follow-up interview with Smollett. His lawyers say he feels \u2018victimized\u2019 by reports that he played a role in the assault.<\/li>\n<li>Feb. 17, 2019:\u00a0Chicago police reach out to Smollett\u2019s attorney saying they still want to interview him again because new information has \u201cshifted\u201d their investigation.<\/li>\n<li>Feb. 19, 2019: Chicago\u2019s top prosecutor, Cook County State\u2019s Attorney Kim Foxx, recuses herself from the investigation.
