Adam Poppenhouse was serving his country in Iraq when he lost his right leg during an explosion in 2006, <a href=\"https:\/\/news3lv.com\/news\/local\/veteran-gets-new-home-from-las-vegas-charity\">according<\/a> to News 3.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>After multiple surgeries, \u201cAdam elected to have doctors amputate his left leg in order to move forward with a relatively pain-free life. After aggressive physical therapy and rehab, Adam was able to regain an active lifestyle using prosthetics,\u201d the Homes for Our Troops website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hfotusa.org\/building-homes\/veterans\/poppenhouse\/\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He used a wheelchair to move throughout the house, but it was difficult caring for his two sons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen in his wheelchair, he has trouble reaching the countertops, making it challenging to prepare meals for his children. Additionally, Adam has difficulties navigating around the home while in his wheelchair,\u201d the charity\u2019s website explained.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Now, the organization has built a specially adapted house to help him overcome such barriers.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, the organization <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/homesforourtroops\/videos\/10154388816438808\">shared<\/a> a video of Poppenhouse detailing his story and said it had accepted him into the program:<\/p>\n<div class=\"fb-video\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/homesforourtroops\/videos\/10154388816438808\" data-width=\"640\">\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/homesforourtroops\/videos\/10154388816438808\/\" class=\"fb-xfbml-parse-ignore\">\n<p>Daily tasks are difficult for Army Sergeant Adam Poppenhouse while taking care of his son at home, since his current living situation is not adapted to his injuries. In a HFOT home, Adam will be able to access every room in his wheelchair, making it easier to care for his son.We recently accepted Adam into our program and will be building him a home in Las Vegas.
