You can cavalierly talk about doing this or doing that. At some point, the institution is going to be compromised,&#8221; the justice said at a Friday event hosted\u00a0by former Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch\u2019s foundation in <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/utah\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Utah<\/a>. \u201cBy doing this, you continue to chip away at the respect of the institutions that the next generation is going to need if they\u2019re going to have civil society.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><b><u><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/clarence-thomas-rulings-the-thinking-of-white-conservatives-washington-post\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WASHINGTON POST TWEAKS STORY LINKING CLARENCE THOMAS TO &#8216;WHITE CONSERVATIVES&#8217;<\/a><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The high court justice also touched on common conservative complaints about the so-called &#8220;cancel culture&#8221; that many critics say is utilized to silence worldviews or opinions that are deemed unacceptable in politics and the media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m afraid, particularly in this world of <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/cancel-culture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cancel culture<\/a> attack, I don\u2019t know where you\u2019re going to learn to engage as we did when I grew up,\u201d he said. \u201cIf you don\u2019t learn at that level in high school, in grammar school, in your neighborhood, or in civic organizations, then how do you have it when you\u2019re making decisions in government, in the legislature, or in the courts?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In recent months, the justice has come <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/politics\/the-medias-war-on-clarence-and-ginni-thomas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">under attack<\/a> by numerous media outlets claiming that Thomas should recuse himself from cases due to his wife Ginni Thomas&#8217;s involvement in conservative activism for the group Liberty Central. But others have indicated that demanding recusal would be unprecedented, citing similar circumstances, such as the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/baseless-recusal-attack-clarence-thomas-opinion-1686780\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">not recusing herself<\/a> from cases in which a law firm where her husband worked represented parties appearing before the high court.<\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court is poised this year to rule on several high-profile cases surrounding abortion, climate regulations, voting rights, and gun control.
