The two had been traveling across the U.S. visiting national parks, with Petito documenting the trip on social media. The case intensified when police body cameras were released showing the couple after an argument, with Petito seen crying. Police separated the couple for the night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is believed that on August 27, 2021, Brian Laundrie murdered Gabrielle Petito,\u201d the Petito\u2019s lawsuit says.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents allege that Laundrie sent fake text messages between his cell phone and Petito\u2019s \u201cin an effort to hide the fact\u201d that she was already dead. It is also believed that he used Petito\u2019s phone to message her family, as the texts he sent did not sound like something she would say.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Bertolino, the attorney representing the Laundries, told Fox News Digital that the lawsuit was \u201cbaseless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I have maintained over the last several months, the Laundrie\u2018s have not publicly commented at my direction which is their right under the law,\u201d he told the outlet. \u201cAssuming everything the Petitos allege in their lawsuit is true, which we deny, this lawsuit does not change the fact that the Laundries had no obligation to speak to Law Enforcement or any third-party including the Petito family.\u00a0 This fundamental legal principle renders the Petito\u2019s claims to be baseless under the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After Laundrie returned to his parents\u2019 house, he disappeared, and a manhunt began. In October 2021, Laundrie\u2019s remains were discovered in an area of Florida\u2019s Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/gabby-petito-case-human-remains-found-in-florida-reserve-near-items-belonging-to-brian-laundrie-coroner-called\">reported<\/a>. In November, the autopsy results <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/just-in-autopsy-reveals-brian-laundrie-cause-of-death-as-suicide\">showed<\/a> Laundrie committed suicide.<\/p>\n<p>Near Laundrie\u2019s body was a notebook, which the FBI revealed in January contained an admission that he had killed Gabby, The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fbi-confirms-laundrie-notebook-admits-guilt-will-close-gabby-petito-investigation\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYesterday, the family of Gabrielle Petito met with the FBI at the Tampa Field Office as the investigation will be closed in the near future,\u201d the FBI said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/contact-us\/field-offices\/denver\/news\/press-releases\/fbi-denver-provides-final-investigative-update-on-gabrielle-petito-case\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll logical investigative steps have been concluded in this case,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/contact-us\/field-offices\/denver\/news\/press-releases\/fbi-denver-provides-final-investigative-update-on-gabrielle-petito-case\">said<\/a>\u00a0FBI Denver Division Special Agent in Charge Michael Schneider. \u201cThe investigation did not identify any other individuals other than Brian Laundrie directly involved in the tragic death of Gabby Petito. The FBI\u2019s primary focus throughout the investigation was to bring justice to Gabby and her family.
