Tolkien.<\/p>\n<p>The site, aptly named <a href=\"http:\/\/booktriggerwarnings.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BookTriggerWarnings.com<\/a>, points out content across classic literature such as fatphobia, age-gap romances, discrimination against gypsies, and even diarrhea as some of the red flags for readers.<\/p>\n<p>However, the minds behind the site are quick to admit that the team of peer-based trigger spotters are not all that qualified.   <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not medical\/psychological professionals and do not claim that our pages are complete or accurate,\u201d a homepage message reads, also warning \u201cjust because a book \u2018looks safe\u2019 for you on our site does not guarantee that it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/books-658.jpg?quality=90&#038;strip=all\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"656\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/books-658.jpg?quality=90&#038;strip=all&#038;w=656\" alt=\"Classic titles like \" To Kill A Mockingbird \/><\/a><figcaption>Classic titles like \u201cTo Kill a Mockingbird\u201d are now flagged with trigger warnings online.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There\u2019s been a total of 6,701 books to have trigger warnings on the site, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/femail\/article-10602153\/Wikipedia-style-website-compiles-list-trigger-warnings-6-000-classic-books.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Mail reported<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>They range from high school required readings such as Mark Twain\u2019s reconstruction era book \u201cAdventures of Huckleberry Finn,\u201d which was listed for \u201cparental neglect,\u201d along with themes of racism and slavery, to a laundry list of apparently inappropriate subject matter in J.D. Salinger\u2019s New York coming-of-age tale \u201cThe Catcher in the Rye.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>That novel is marked for ableism (the discrimination against a non-able-bodied individual), vomiting, diarrhea and violent fantasies, in addition to other heavier subject matters such as suicide, sexual harassment, racism, homophobia and \u201cimplied\u201d pedophilia.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/books-666.jpg?quality=90&#038;strip=all\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/books-666.jpg?quality=90&#038;strip=all&#038;w=683\" alt=\"References to obscene wealth are now triggers for \" The Great Gatsby \/><\/a><figcaption>References to obscene wealth are now triggers in \u201cThe Great Gatsby.\u201d<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Oli Scarff<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>F. Scott Fitzgerald\u2019s \u201cThe Great Gatsby\u201d \u2014 a glamorous depiction of Long Island\u2019s elite gold coast in the 1920s \u2014 made it onto the site for containing themes of wealth hoarding, class discrimination, misogynistic violence and \u2014 spoiler alert \u2014 character death. <\/p>\n<p>Harper Lee\u2019s iconic \u201cTo Kill a Mockingbird,\u201d depicting the Jim Crow-era South, was also cited for murder, mentioning \u201crape,\u201d use of the \u201cN-word\u201d and racism. A school district near Seattle also <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/01\/25\/seattle-school-removes-to-kill-a-mockingbird-from-curriculum\/\">removed it from its curriculum earlier this year<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Classic reads from Arthur Conan Doyle\u2019s \u201cSherlock Holmes\u201d mystery series were also found to contain triggers relating to the persecution of Mormons, use of poison, ableism again, and the novels\u2019 often main theme: murder.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/books-656.jpg?quality=90&#038;strip=all\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"660\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/books-656.jpg?quality=90&#038;strip=all&#038;w=660\" alt=\"Even \" Sherlock Holmes \/><\/a><figcaption>Even \u201cSherlock Holmes\u201d was found to be a triggering series of books.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Jane Austen\u2019s classic British romance \u201cEmma\u201d is apparently problematic for referencing period-typical age gap romances and anti-gypsy sentiment, whereas Helen Fielding\u2019s \u201cBridget Jones\u201d series is considered to be triggering for including cheating along with body image issues, weight obsession and calorie counting.<\/p>\n<p>Mythical adventures such as J.K.
