Smollett was indicted, tried and convicted by a kangaroo prosecution in a matter of months,\u201d Foxx wrote in the piece.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMeanwhile, the families of more than 50 Black women decision to <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2019\/03\/26\/all-charges-against-jussie-smollett-have-been-dropped\/\">quietly drop all charges against him<\/a> after he agreed to forfeit his $10,000 bond and complete some community service hours.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The state attorney was widely lambasted for the move and a <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2019\/04\/17\/kim-foxxs-deputy-didnt-have-authority-to-drop-smollett-charges-emails\/\">series of other ethical blunders<\/a> she made while handling the case.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Foxx continued to speak with Smollett\u2019s sister after he was the target of a criminal probe and <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2019\/04\/19\/kim-foxx-ignored-ethical-warning-in-jussie-smollett-case\/\">deliberately misled the public in her \u201ccolloquial recusal\u201d<\/a> where she continued to be actively involved in the case and never filed to appoint a special prosecutor, as is required by law.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a Arbogast<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The missteps ultimately prompted Judge Michael Toomin to appoint special prosecutor Dan Webb to reinvestigate the case, ruling Foxx\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2019\/06\/21\/jussie-smollett-could-be-charged-again-says-chicago-judge\/\">handling of the matter was rife with \u201cunprecedented irregularities\u201d<\/a> and a second look was necessary to restore confidence in the criminal justice system.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the column, Foxx defended her \u201cprosecutorial discretion\u201d in her decision to drop the charges against Smollett and criticized the appointment of Webb as \u201cmob justice.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the reputational price Smollett paid, the $10,000 bond we held, and the fact that he\u2019d never been accused of a violent crime, my office made the decision not to further pursue a criminal conviction. Last year alone there were over 800 murders in Chicago. My administration has vacated over 177 wrongful convictions, 87 of those in the last 3 years. Rather than working collaboratively to stem rising crime or free the wrongly convicted, a small group of people hijacked the judicial system to enact what is best described as mob justice.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after Foxx dropped Smollett\u2019s charges, her office said similar deferred prosecution deals were offered to a slew of defendants facing similar raps, but when pressed, it was never able to produce an example.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When asked about Foxx\u2019s comments late Thursday, Webb said he doesn\u2019t answer to Foxx and previously said on multiple occasions allowed to go free and basically give the finger to the city of Chicago,\u201d Webb said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJudge Toomin decided that the handling of that case was so inappropriate that a special
