His actions reportedly made those inside the Woburn, Massachusetts, GOP office feel unsafe and threatened.<\/p>\n<p>The Boston Herald <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/2022\/03\/10\/lawyer-accused-of-storming-massachusetts-gop-headquarters-charged-with-disorderly-conduct\/\">reported<\/a> that 72-year-old Hugh Samson of Nahant, Massachusetts, allegedly \u201cforced his way into nonpublic areas of the headquarters to confront them about whether the party directed the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. When they locked him out, they say he delivered an expletive-laden tirade calling them \u2018(expletive) fascists.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore leaving, they say, he mentioned coming back with a \u2018weapon,&#8217;\u201d the paper added.<\/p>\n<p>His attorneys, however, say that comment was made \u201csarcastically\u201d and was supposed to be a cheeky remark that Republicans would see firearms and weapons as \u201cl<span class=\"s1\">egitimate political discourse.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Herald noted that a judge in the \u201cWoburn District Court, found enough evidence to move forward with the charge at a probable cause hearing Thursday morning. He did not find enough evidence to move forward with a charge of threatening to commit a crime, however.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In response, one of the staffers present that day said the charge was too lenient.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI think that\u2019s outrageous. I feel threatened,\u201d Wendy Wakeman, of North Andover, told reporters. \u201cI don\u2019t think anyone uses the word \u2018weapon\u2019 unless they\u2019re thinking of using it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Herald also noted that the police report gave more detail into the alleged disruption at the Woburn GOP office:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><em><span class=\"s1\">The police reports state that Samson took out his cellphone in the conference room and asked if he could photograph Wakeman, who said no and blocked his phone with her laptop.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><em><span class=\"s1\">That\u2019s when John Milligan, another staffer, called 911. Defense attorney Mitchell played about a minute of the audio from that call as an exhibit for the court to illustrate that Samson\u2019s comments were made in context to Jan. 6.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Samson\u2019s attorneys are currently arguing that all of his alleged behavior fall under the First Amendment, and that his comments were \u201c\u2018<span class=\"s1\">obnoxious\u2019 and to \u2018provoke a response, but not a violent response&#8217;\u201d and should be considered \u201cpolitical hyperbole.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The septuagenarian has made numerous campaign donations to Democrats, the Boston-based paper added:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><em><span class=\"s1\">Samson is highly involved in Democratic politics. He regularly donates thousands of dollars to Democratic campaigns of both individual candidates and national groups \u2014 $2,500 each to the Democratic Party campaign committees for both senate and congressional candidates in October alone \u2014 according to OpenSecrets.org, a database that tracks campaign contributions.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In response to Samson\u2019s political donations, Wakefield said \u201c<span class=\"s1\">This guy has all the power in the world and I have none of the power.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the past, it would appear that Samson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/callback\/?auth_redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bostonherald.com%2F2022%2F03%2F10%2Flawyer-accused-of-storming-massachusetts-gop-headquarters-charged-with-disorderly-conduct%2F&#038;code=0IU1GtmC6xdOAT7l&#038;state=dHVBWEN1MFlCeDJ3YXY2bnJGbWh6S2hLZlhKWGQ5NkJhZkhxNG5CbGVLTg%3D%3D\">has also written a letter to the editor<\/a> in the Boston Herald, calling for non-violent protests against President Donald Trump. In 2016, a letter to the editor signed by \u201cHugh Samson, Nahant\u201d said that \u201cif Trump comes for our friends, or tries to poison our air or water, then resist \u2014 even if resistance ends up requiring civil disobedience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut protests should be nonviolent.
