Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2022\/03\/GettyImages-556421117.jpg?w=1200&#038;h=800&#038;ixlib=react-9.3.0\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/div>\n<p>A professor who criticized \u201cwoke dysphoria\u201d at his school and its search for a new president has been suspended.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Gregory Schulz, a professor at Concordia College in Wisconsin, wrote in a February 14 <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/xEsIG\">article<\/a> at Christian News that \u201cMy Concordia university is experiencing dysphoria because it is coming under the influence of Woke-ism (that is, a potent cocktail of Progressivism, Neo-Pragmatism, and Marxism).\u201d Schulz, who was at one point a candidate to be Concordia\u2019s next president, also criticized the school \u201cfor allegedly prioritizing candidates who support diversity, equity, inclusion and critical race theory ideology,\u201d The College Fix <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecollegefix.com\/wisconsin-professor-suspended-after-criticizing-woke-dysphoria-at-lutheran-college\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Schulz wrote that those working to select the new president \u201chave been publicly announcing their determination to have a president who exhibits a \u2018demonstrated belief in and commitment to equity and inclusion.\u2019\u201d He added that this committee has also expressed they want a candidate \u201cwho promotes racialized \u2018diversity in all its myriad forms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dan Lennington of the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL), Schulz\u2019s attorney, told the Fix that \u201cThe University has asked that Dr. Schulz \u2018recant\u2019 his views and apologize for offending University officials, which he is unwilling to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schulz was then suspended, Lennington told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is our understanding that the University suspended Dr. [Gregory] Schulz for his public criticism of the search for a new president and the overall direction of the university,\u201d Lennington said.<\/p>\n<p>On February 24, Concordia Interim President William Cario released <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.cuw.edu\/president-update\/?fbclid=IwAR0_fIRdKEH12dPD_vw3mXOEYNkAt7hAxUyoWv6AIPF0TO6kqgiNMs4J1cs\">a statement<\/a> confirming Schulz had been suspended without explaining why.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast week I took the painful action of suspending one of our employees,\u201d\u00a0Cario said. \u201cDespite my effort to meet with the individual outside of class time to discuss the situation using biblical principles as outlined in Matthew 18, my request was rejected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe employee was suspended with full pay and benefits pending appropriate due process within our church system and the legal system,\u201d Cario added.<\/p>\n<p>Lisa Liljegren, a spokesperson for Concordia, gave the Fix an additional statement regarding the search for a new permanent president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Board has been clear that the ideal candidate will:\u00a0<em>be a person of deep faith, humble and devoted to the teachings of Jesus Christ and God\u2019s Word; winsome and fervent in their confession of the doctrine of the Lutheran Church<\/em>,\u201d the statement said, adding that the new president \u201cwill possess extraordinary intellectual curiosity and theological acumen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prominent free speech groups have spoken out against Schulz\u2019s punishment, including the Academic Freedom Alliance, which said in a letter written by Princeton professor Keith Whittington that the punishment \u201cwould have a profound chilling effect on open discourse by professors on this campus and through the Concordia University system.\u201d This punishment \u201cwould damage the university\u2019s ability to operate as an institution of higher education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) added that \u201cAdministrators should not suppress criticism from faculty, but should welcome it as a potentially valuable source of feedback on institutional policies and culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Enter for the chance to hang out with Gina Carano at the premiere of her new Daily Wire movie, Terror on the Prairie!
