Over a century later, Endurance22, Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust\u2019s expedition team, <a href=\"https:\/\/endurance22.org\/endurance-is-found\">announced<\/a> in a press release that it had found the ship at a depth of nearly 10,000 feet.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Endurance is Found <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/e8VxYhmUCb\">pic.twitter.com\/e8VxYhmUCb<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Endurance22 (@Endurance_22) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Endurance_22\/status\/1501452738164674560?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 9, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The expedition team, which embarked on its search in early February, found <em>Endurance<\/em> in the team\u2019s defined search area, some four miles the location originally recorded by Arthur Worsley, the ship\u2019s captain. Mensun Bound, director of exploration for the expedition, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/world\/ernest-shackletons-ship-endurance-antarctica-sea-106-years-1915-rcna19264\">told<\/a> NBC News that<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Endurance\u2019s preservation is \u201cbeyond imagination.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This is by far the finest wooden shipwreck I have ever seen. It is upright, well proud of the seabed, intact, and in a brilliant state of preservation.  You can even see \u201cEndurance\u201d arced across the stern. Agulhas II, a South African polar research and logistics vessel, under Master Captain Knowledge Bendu, and used \u201cSaab\u2019s Sabertooth hybrid underwater search vehicles,\u201d the release stated. The ship is owned by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and Environment.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Donald Lamont, Chairman of the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust: &#8220;Our objectives for Endurance22 were to locate, survey and film the wreck, but also to conduct important scientific research, and to run an exceptional outreach programme.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/KCo5sGbQ6w\">pic.twitter.com\/KCo5sGbQ6w<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Endurance22 (@Endurance_22) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Endurance_22\/status\/1501453972703428610?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 9, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Brittanica <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Ernest-Henry-Shackleton\">noted<\/a>\u00a0<em>Endurance<\/em> set out for its expedition from England in 1914, and the release states the crew\u2019s goal was \u201cto achieve the first land crossing of Antarctica from the Weddell Sea via the South Pole to the Ross Sea.\u201d\u00a0<em>Endurance\u2019s<\/em> 28 crew members were forced to abandon ship after it became stuck in packed ice, and the crew set up\u00a0makeshift camps on the ice floes drifting northwards where they stayed for months, according to the release.<\/p>\n<p>The crew then used lifeboats to reach the uninhabited Elephant Island. From there, six men, including Shackleton, sailed 800 miles in the lifeboat <em>James Caird<\/em> and reached the mountainous island of South Georgia.
