White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters Tuesday afternoon that \u201cthis is a Putin spike at the gas pump, not one prompted by our sanctions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>White House communications director Kate Bedingfield <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WHCommsDir\/status\/1501606863330332677?s=20&#038;t=Z55vySMhl0lxaOo9LMakkA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tweeted<\/a> Wednesday that \u201cf<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">or months Putin has been saber-rattling, and for months gas prices have been going up \u2013 up 75 cents since he began his military build-up.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">\u201cThis is the #PutinPriceHike\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">in action, and @POTUS<\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">\u00a0is going to use every tool at his disposal to shield Americans from pain at the pump,\u201d Bedingfield declared.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Upon this rebranding, the administration has been pressed on the topic, with multiple reporters pointing out the ever-changing reasons for high gas prices coming from the White House. The \u201cPutin\u2019s price hike\u201d narrative also coincides with a push from the administration to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/17\/joe-biden-federal-trade-commission-gasoline-prices-big-oil\/\">blame oil companies<\/a>\u00a0as well. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/07\/white-house-oil-gas-leasing-russia-ukraine\/\">(RELATED:\u00a0ANALYSIS: White House Keeps Misleading Public On Oil, Gas Leasing. (Photo by Nicholas Kamm \/ AFP) (Photo by NICHOLAS KAMM\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy pointed out Wednesday that prior to blaming Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s invasion of Ukraine, Biden had blamed rising gas prices on \u201cthe supply chain and \u2026 post-pandemic demand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you guys knew for months that this was going to be the #PutinPriceTag, why are we just hearing that now?\u201d Doocy asked.<\/p>\n<p>Fox Business White House correspondent Edward Lawrence also pressed the administration, noting that gas prices had been rising far before Russia invaded Ukraine. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/09\/white-house-jen-psaki-crude-oil-drilling-energy\/\">(RELATED:\u00a0\u2018What Additional Permits Do They Need?\u2019: Psaki Mocks Question About Oil Drilling Regulatory Hurdles)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would say since President Putin began his military buildup on Ukrainian borders, the price of gas at the pump in America has gone up 75 cents, which is significant, of course. There\u2019s widespread consensus that the sharp run of energy prices since January was caused by the building of Putin\u2019s troops at Ukraine\u2019s border,\u201d Psaki <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/09\/doocy-presses-psaki-blaming-russia-gas-prices\/\">maintained<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration\u2019s latest messaging shift comes just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/video\/biden-devil-bring-gas-prices-150121192.html\">weeks<\/a> after the president promised he would \u201cwork like the devil\u201d to combat rising prices.<\/p>\n<p>Just after reiterating his promise to do \u201ceverything\u201d possible, Biden was pressed Tuesday about what message he had for Americans and what he planned to do to help calm the rise in prices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re [prices] going to go up,\u201d Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/08\/joe-biden-cant-do-much-rising-gas-prices-russia-inflation\/\">said<\/a>. \u201cCan\u2019t do much right now \u2026 Russia is responsible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though the price of gas has increased since Putin invaded Ukraine, the administration has sought to downplay the fact that prices at the pump have risen throughout Biden\u2019s entire time in office \u2013 long before the Russian invasion.<\/p>\n<p>When Biden was elected president, for example, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/petroleum\/gasdiesel\/\">average price<\/a> for gas at the pump in the U.S. sat at $2.11, Forbes reported.
