with fines and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/11\/19\/austria-unvaccinated-could-face-prison-as-country-locks-down-and-announces-vaccine-mandate\/\">possibly even imprisonment<\/a>, Austria has suspended its regime of forced vaccination.<\/p>\n<p>After months of protests and a number of political controversies, Austria\u2019s regime of forced vaccination has been suspended.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Austrian authorities had been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/02\/17\/massive-u-turn-austria-to-repeal-almost-all-corona-apartheid-rules-targeting-unvaxxed\/\">hinting<\/a> at dumping the measure since they announced the relaxation of the country\u2019s \u201cCorona Apartheid\u201d measures against the unjabbed in February, but have now confirmed the regime\u2019s suspension due to it being \u201cnot proportionate\u201d to the threat posed by the Omicron variant of the Chinese Coronavirus poses.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.krone.at\/2649586\">report<\/a> by\u00a0<em>Kronen Zeitung<\/em>, the announcement that the measure was being suspended was made on Wednesday, just days before fines of up to \u20ac3,600 were to be introduced for those who didn\u2019t get a jab.<\/p>\n<p>Karoline Edtstadler, who serves as Austria\u2019s\u00a0Constitutional Minister, explained that the measure was being suspended \u201cbecause there are many arguments that the encroachment on fundamental rights is not justified\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>However, while forced vaccination might be gone for now, both Edstadler and\u00a0Health Minister Johannes Rauch emphasised that the law was not being taken entirely off of the books, and could be implemented at any time should the government view it as href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/11\/19\/austria-unvaccinated-could-face-prison-as-country-locks-down-and-announces-vaccine-mandate\/\">threaten<\/a> its population with a vaccine mandate, telling residents to either get jabbed or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/11\/19\/austria-unvaccinated-could-face-prison-as-country-locks-down-and-announces-vaccine-mandate\/\">face legal consequences<\/a> back in November of last year.<\/p>\n<p>Measures forcing the jab were then officially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/02\/05\/vaccination-against-the-chinese-coronavirus-has-become-compulsory-for-all-adults-in-austria-as-of-saturday\/\">introduced<\/a> in early February, though for a variety of reasons, penalties for infringing on the new rules were not to be enforced until the middle of this month<\/p>\n<p>However, despite the threats, the regime of forced vaccination did not seem to have a significant positive effect on vaccine uptake.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>A\u00a0<em>Kronen Zeitung\u00a0<\/em>report in February <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/02\/14\/forced-vax-had-no-effect-on-jab-uptake-in-austrian-capital-claim\/\">claimed<\/a> that the mandate had no positive effect on the number of people getting jabbed in Vienna, with vaccination figures even appearing to decrease in the capital with the introduction of the measure.<\/p>\n<p>This claim now appears to be backed up by\u00a0<em>Der Spiegel<\/em>, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spiegel.de\/ausland\/oesterreich-setzt-coronaimpfpflicht-aus-a-319feca6-0178-4033-885f-d99078dc4fc1\">reports<\/a> that forced jabs had \u201cpractically no effect in Austria\u201d, saying only around 26,000 individuals got vaccinated against the disease since the beginning of February while the rule was in force.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/03\/09\/more-than-one-in-ten-austrians-are-defying-mandatory-vaccination-law\/\">figures<\/a> from the country\u2019s health ministry suggest that just under a million people remain unvaccinated against the Chinese Coronavirus in defiance of the mandating order, roughly 13 per cent of the German-speaking country\u2019s population.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, throughout the entirety of the mandatory vaccination ordeal, protests against the measure <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/01\/10\/they-are-afraid-of-us-thousands-march-for-a-second-day-in-austria\/\">continued<\/a> to occur throughout the country, with thousands taking to the streets to demand the measure be scrapped, despite harassment from state authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The country also played host to at least one\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/02\/14\/they-cant-stop-us-freedom-convoy-rolls-into-eus-capital-despite-government-ban\/\">demonstration<\/a> mirroring the Freedom Convoy movement in Canada, with a parade of vehicles making its way through the Vienna city-centre last month despite the protest being ruled illegal by
