It&#8217;s discriminatory. It&#8217;s a form of bullying. It is horrific.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3BbLaMHqvq\">pic.twitter.com\/3BbLaMHqvq<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CurtisHouck\/status\/1501626719370891265?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 9, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe Florida bill that just passed restricting the speaking about \u2014 of homosexuality and gender identity up to third grade,\u201d one reporter asked, noting that President Joe Biden had voted for a much more restrictive measure when he was in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 1994 when many of us were in school, President Biden actually voted for a much broader restriction that banned federal funds from being used for, quote, \u2018the promotion of homosexuality as a positive lifestyle alternative,&#8217;\u201d he continued. \u201cWhy did he do that? And can you explain how his thinking has evolved over the years?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Psaki began by saying that President Biden had often spoken \u201cpassionately\u201d about his feelings on the subject.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA bill like this, that would discriminate against families, against kids, put these kids in the position of not getting the support they need at a time where that\u2019s exactly what they need. It\u2019s discriminatory. It\u2019s a form of bullying. It is horrific. I mean, the president has spoken to that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Psaki went on to say that Biden\u2019s opinions and views from 25 years ago were less relevant than those of the elected leaders in Florida, whom she went on to accuse of acting out of \u201cmeanness\u201d and a desire to make life more difficult for kids.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the most important question now is why are Florida leaders deciding they need to discriminate against kids who are members of the LGBTQI community? What prompts them to do that? Is it meanness? Is it wanting to make kids have more difficult times in school and in their communities? I would pose that question to them and we can talk about it more tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Christina Pushaw, spokeswoman for Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL), <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChristinaPushaw\/status\/1501636083095900166\">responded<\/a> to Psaki\u2019s comments, saying, \u201cThe word \u2018gay\u2019 does not appear in the parental rights bill. It has nothing to do with LGBT content specifically; it\u2019s about protecting young children from ALL inappropriate sexual content and gender theory instruction. It is the sole right of the parents to discuss those topics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill passed the Florida Senate on Tuesday and is expected to get the signature of Governor DeSantis. DeSantis defended the bill in a heated exchange with a reporter several days earlier, as The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/does-it-say-that-in-the-bill-ron-desantis-rebukes-reporter-for-pushing-dont-say-gay-narrative\/\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cDoes it say that in the bill?\u201d DeSantis repeated the question.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI\u2019m asking \u2014\u201d Donovan protested, but DeSantis pushed back immediately.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI\u2019m asking you to tell me what\u2019s in the bill, because you are pushing false narratives,\u201d DeSantis continued. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter what critics say.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt bans classroom instruction on sexual identity and gender orientation,\u201d Donovan pressed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cFor who?\u201d DeSantis asked. \u201cFor grades pre-k through three.
