Cindy Axne of Iowa denied a link between government spending under President Biden&#8217;s administration and the skyrocketing rate of inflation sweeping across the U.S. economy during a recent interview.<\/p>\n<p>Axne&#8217;s position conflicts with what economists have said on the issue.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kniakrls.com\/2022\/03\/04\/in-depth-congresswoman-cindy-axne-3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">interview <\/a>with local radio station KNIA-KRLS last week, Axne was asked whether she believed the unprecedented inflation in the U.S. economy was linked to the White House&#8217;s spike in spending during and after the pandemic. Axne dismissed this narrative as a &#8220;talking point&#8221; and said that conclusion was &#8220;shortsighted&#8221; and not in touch with &#8220;the reality of things.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The facts are that although there is inflation, it isn\u2019t just because of \u2013 you can\u2019t ever just \u2013 listen, I wouldn\u2019t blame inflation on President Trump, and I\u2019m not going to blame it on President Biden,&#8221; Axne told host Bob Leonard. &#8220;To do so is so shortsighted and doesn\u2019t look at the reality of things.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/how-much-will-inflation-and-record-gas-prices-cost-the-average-american-family-in-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>INFLATION AND RECORD GAS PRICES WILL HIT AMERICAN\u2019S PAYCHECKS HARD<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"inline image-ct\">\n<div class=\"m\"><source media=\"(max-width: 767px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 768px) and (max-width: 1023px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 1024px) and (max-width: 1279px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 1280px)\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/a57.foxnews.com\/static.foxbusiness.com\/foxbusiness.com\/content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/931\/523\/Cindy-Axne.jpeg?ve=1&#038;tl=1\" alt=\"Rep Cindy Axne\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"caption\">\n<p><span>Rep. And then you throw on top of it a major worldwide crisis of a pandemic, where we\u2019re seeing supply-chain disruption across the entire world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Absolutely we\u2019re going to see this. So let\u2019s fix it. Let\u2019s not just sit there and say, \u2018Oh, you know, we\u2019ve got this problem.\u2019 Let\u2019s talk about the solutions, and that\u2019s what the president did last night, and I\u2019m proud to be a part of it,&#8221; she concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Axne, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/video-house-democrat-dismissing-inflation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously dismissed<\/a> inflation concerns as &#8220;false advertisements,&#8221; has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrcc.org\/2022\/02\/18\/leaked-dccc-polling-spells-trouble-for-axne\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">targeted<\/a> by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) as a vulnerable House Democrat heading into the 2022 midterms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Despite her claims about the causes of inflation, prominent economists, including Democrats, warned Democrats that their big-spending agenda would cause inflation. Steven Rattner, a former Treasury Department official under the Obama administration, said the spending in President Biden&#8217;s American Rescue Plan was the &#8220;original sin&#8221; that caused inflation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The original sin was the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, passed in March.
