Among the resources listed for upper school students was an appalling article titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thenewinquiry.com\/in-defense-of-looting\/\">In Defense of Looting<\/a>,\u201d which uses the politics of racial grievance to defend acts of political violence, calling looting \u201cone of the most righteous anti-white supremacist tactics.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Screen-Shot-2022-03-08-at-4.00.22-PM-1024x427-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-268789\" width=\"674\" height=\"281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Screen-Shot-2022-03-08-at-4.00.22-PM-1024x427-1.png 1024w, https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Screen-Shot-2022-03-08-at-4.00.22-PM-300x125.png 300w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Screen-Shot-2022-03-08-at-4.00.22-PM-768x320-1.png 768w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Screen-Shot-2022-03-08-at-4.00.22-PM-1536x640-1.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Screen-Shot-2022-03-08-at-4.00.22-PM.png 1718w\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>It also defends looting on Marxist and anti-white grounds, saying that it \u201cis extremely dangerous to the rich (and most white people) because it reveals, with an immediacy that has to be moralized away, that the idea of private property is just that: an idea, a tenuous and contingent structure of consent.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen rioters take territory and loot, they are revealing precisely how, in a space without cops, property relations can be destroyed and things can be had for free,\u201d it continues.<\/p>\n<p>The article even went on to lament the police because they make it more difficult to victimize white people, reading \u201cthe history of the police in America is the history of black people being violently prevented from threatening white people\u2019s property rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"school-tells-white-people-re-educate-yourself\">School <strong>Tells White People: \u2018Re-Educate Yourself\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In addition to the \u201cIn Defense of Rioting\u201d article, Robin DiAngelo\u2019s \u201cWhite Fragility,\u201d Carol Anderson\u2019s \u201cWhite Rage,\u201d and other cornerstone texts of critical race theory, The Hockaday School also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockaday.org\/inclusion--community\/dei-resources\">endorses<\/a> a number of extreme leftwing organizations, such as Whites for Racial Equity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/whitesforracialequity.org\/\">The organization<\/a> holds trainings on \u201cracial recognition\u201d and \u201cimplicit bias in the classroom.\u201d Its website list 11 suggestions for \u201cwhite accountability,\u201d instructing white people to \u201cdonate a percentage of your income to racial justice organizations led by BIPOC people,\u201d \u201chave people of color coaches whose services you pay for,\u201d and to \u201cre-educate yourself with non-white culture\/media.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hockaday also linked to an <a href=\"https:\/\/nmaahc.si.edu\/learn\/talking-about-race\/topics\/whiteness\">article<\/a> titled \u201cWhiteness\u201d from the National Museum of African American History and Culture, which discusses white privilege, white supremacy, white dominant culture, and even the \u201cinternalization of whiteness.\u201d It cites infamous critical race theorist Robin DiAngelo and discusses the ways in which white people can begin \u201cconfronting whiteness\u201d and \u201cfacing your whiteness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The school discussed their DEI initiatives in a statement to The Federalist, remarking \u201cThe\u00a0DEI initiatives on our webpage illustrate\u00a0some of\u00a0the transparent steps we have taken to\u00a0support our students\u2019\u00a0creative and divergent thinking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They continued, noting that the resources on their website \u201care\u00a0not intended to advocate for nor approve of the theme, thesis, stance, purpose,\u00a0or language used by any author or organization. They are, however, intended to stimulate discussion and awareness, agreement and disagreement, and\u00a0other principles that support a comprehensive education and inclusive view of the world.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The materials listed on Hockaday\u2019s pages uniformly espouse leftwing perspectives on race, grounded in the precepts of critical race theory.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"wokeness-infects-curriculum-and-student-life\">Wokeness Infects Curriculum And Student Life<\/h2>\n<p>The Hockaday School\u2019s descent into wokeness has had significant impacts on student life. Like <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/04\/chicago-private-school-injected-race-into-physics-class-then-tracked-whether-the-indoctrination-worked\/\">other schools<\/a> affiliated with the leftwing National Association of Independent Schools accreditation agency, even classes that are supposed to teach students hard sciences like physics have been turned into a forum for extreme leftism.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One parent, who wished to remain unnamed, provided documentation proving the school\u2019s high school physics courses rely on curriculum supplied by <a href=\"https:\/\/e4usa.org\/about-us\">e4usa<\/a>, an organization that appears to focus less on engineering and more on leftwing indoctrination.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Hockaday-School-Physics.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-268730\" width=\"300\" height=\"518\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Hockaday-School-Physics.jpg 186w, https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Hockaday-School-Physics-174x300.jpg 174w\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The organization\u2019s website explains that students will \u201ccreate their own understanding of the value of diversity in engineering, as well as build their own identity as a confident problem solver.\u201d One of the course learning objectives is for students to be able to \u201carticulate changing perspectives on one\u2019s current identities with respect to engineering through regular reflection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The organization\u2019s website also boasts a social justice statement, which reads \u201cWe acknowledge that our discipline developed in the U.S. via hegemonic systems of power and racism, and has for far too long failed to redress inequities perpetuated by many engineering advances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It also claims \u201cit is the responsibility of engineers and engineering educators everywhere to fully engage in promoting social justice.\u201d The organization\u2019s statement calls on \u201call engineering and all STEM scholars to join us in holding one another accountable to continually developing culturally relevant pedagogy to promote social justice.\u201d In a statement to The Federalist, Hockaday said that \u201cWith respect to the E4USA curriculum, Hockaday did utilize it in the past but is no longer doing so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ninth- and tenth-grade students at The Hockaday School also had to attend a social justice assembly where they charted out their identities. The young people were asked about their race, ethnicity, gender, sex, sexual orientation, and even their physical, emotional, and developmental disability status.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/image001-918x1024-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-268731\" width=\"484\" height=\"540\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/image001-918x1024-1.jpg 918w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/image001-269x300-1.jpg 269w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/image001-768x857-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/image001.jpg 1147w\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>They were asked what identities had the greatest effect on how they perceive themselves and how others perceive them, among other questions.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"staff-attends-crt-trainings\">Staff Attends CRT Trainings<\/h2>\n<p>The Hockaday School, which charges tuition of $28,950 to $34,350 per year, has also participated in a number of different conferences and professional development trainings that instruct teachers on how to implement the tenets of critical race theory in the classroom.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Among the conferences that Hockaday staff have attended are the ISAS DEI conference, the NAIS People of Color Conference, and the NAIS Diversity Leadership Institute.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the school is currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockaday.org\/inclusion--community\/dei-initiatives\">undergoing<\/a> curricular review, one facet of Hockaday\u2019s diversity, equity, and inclusion institutional initiatives, which will likely further institutionalize critical race theory at the Texas private school.\u00a0<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">\n  Spencer Lindquist is an intern at The Federalist and a senior at Pepperdine University where he studies Political Science and Rhetoric and Leadership and serves as Pepperdine\u2019s College Republicans President.
