Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) \u2014 a \u201cSquad\u201d member and \u201cDefund the Police\u201d proponent \u2014 spent tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars on private security, new records confirm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Last spring, Pressley and three other \u201cSquad\u201d members \u2014 Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) \u2014 drew heat for spending campaign funds on \u201cprivate security\u201d while supporting efforts to reimagine police service. According to a new report from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/07\/ayanna-pressley-spent-thousands-dollars-taxpayer-money-private-security-house-records-defund-police-squad\/\"><span>The Daily Caller<\/span><\/a><span>, Pressley used taxpayer dollars for \u201csecurity service.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><i><span>According to the new Statement of Disbursements of the House records, Pressley spent $63,000 of her Member Representational Allowance (MRA) on \u201csecurity service\u201d in 2021 \u2014 <\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.house.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-02\/2021q4_singlevolume_signed.pdf\"><i><span>spending<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span> $28,000 between Oct. 1, 2021 and Dec. 31, 2021 and <\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.house.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/uploads\/documents\/SODs\/2021q3\/2021q3_singlevolume.pdf\"><i><span>$35,000<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span> between May 2021 and August 2021.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The payments show the money was directed to Alisa Tatarian, who is a Financial Administrator at the U.S. House of Representatives. It is not clear how that money was finally spent. The Daily Caller contacted Tatarian as well as Pressley\u2019s office several times about the money that was spent on \u201csecurity service,\u201d to which they did not respond.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>According to the House of Representatives <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.house.gov\/the-house-explained\/open-government\/statement-of-disbursements\/frequently-asked-questions\"><span>website<\/span><\/a><span>, the MRA is \u201cintended for individual member offices\u2019 expenditures and receipts during a single legislative year\u201d and \u201cfunded through fiscal year appropriations and authorized annually by the Committee on House Administration.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In June 2020 \u2014 the height of the racial activism that followed the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor \u2014 Pressley told <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/5857571\/ayanna-pressley-defund-police-time100-talks\/\"><span>TIME<\/span><\/a><span> that she supports efforts to defund the police. \u201cThis is simply about a refund. This is about true reparations. This is about investment in communities,\u201d Pressley argued. \u201cThere\u2019s a reason why the Congressional Black Caucus submits an alternative budget every year. Because we know that our communities have been historically under resourced, underinvested in and divested [from].\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In another interview with CNN anchor Don Lemon, Pressley <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/democrat-ayanna-pressley-i-support-radical-reimagining-of-policing-not-further-investing-in-carceral-system\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> that she supports a \u201cradical reimagining of community safety.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIs defunding the police not part of something that you support?\u201d Lemon asked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cDon, what I support and why I put forward bills like my Counseling Not Criminalization Act is that instead of our spending $1 billion over the last two decades to have 46,000 school police officers when every child does not have equitable access to a school nurse, a social worker or a guidance counselor, some of those ratios are one counselor for every 2,000 students,\u201d Pressley responded. \u201cSo, yes, I support a radical reimagining of community safety and public safety, which means reallocating and not further investing in a carceral state especially when we have not yet ended qualified immunity. So, you know, that needs to be the priority is, police accountability.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>President Joe Biden <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/the-squad-sit-in-seats-when-biden-says-fund-the-police-cori-bush-starts-shouting\"><span>proclaimed<\/span><\/a><span> at his State of the Union address that policymakers should \u201cfund the police with the resources and training they need to protect our communities.\u201d In response, multiple progressive lawmakers \u2014 including Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, and Bush \u2014 remained in their seats as their Democratic colleagues stood to applaud.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
