Your actions put the integrity of the game at risk, threatened to damage public confidence in professional football, and potentially undermined the reputations of your fellow players throughout the NFL.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cFor decades, gambling on NFL games has been considered among the most significant violations of league policy warranting the most substantial sanction,\u201d Goodell continued. \u201cIn your case, I acknowledge and commend you for your promptly reporting for an interview, and for admitting your actions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">NFL statement on the year-long suspension of Falcons\u2019 WR  Calvin Ridley: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mQZm5dGgPO\">pic.twitter.com\/mQZm5dGgPO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AdamSchefter\/status\/1500933743279808514?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 7, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Ridley played in just five games during the 2021 season, leaving the team in October in order to focus on his \u201cmental health.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe were first made aware of the league\u2019s investigation on Feb. 9,\u201d the Falcons <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AdamSchefter\/status\/1500936642546253826?s=20&#038;t=0dcgtjwMKm1b5k0m6cXZrQ\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> in a statement. \u201cWe have cooperated fully with the investigation since receiving notice and support the league\u2019s findings and actions. We are moving forward in the 2022 season with the decision that was made. <\/span><span>With the decision that was made by the NFL, any further questions on the investigation should be directed to the league office.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Ridley placed parlay bets on the Falcons to win.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cNFL determined that Calvin Ridley placed multi-legged parlay bets involving 3, 5 and 8 games that included the Falcons to win, per source,\u201d Schefter <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AdamSchefter\/status\/1500942433269518339?s=20&#038;t=0dcgtjwMKm1b5k0m6cXZrQ\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> on Twitter. \u201cInvestigation determined there was no involvement from any team players, coach etc. placed via his mobile device out of state.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Ridley was selected by the Falcons No. 26 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. In his four NFL seasons, Ridley has 248 catches for 3,342 yards and 28 touchdowns. His contract will come off the books for the 2022 season, freeing up $11.1 million in cap space for Atlanta.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In February, Falcons Owner Arthur Blank said that while the team would love to have Ridley return to the team, he was \u201cmostly concerned about him as a human being.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"nfl-c-body-part nfl-c-body-part--text\">\n<p>\u201cWe love the young man,\u201d Blank <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlantafalcons.com\/news\/we-d-love-him-to-stay-in-atlanta-arthur-blank-discusses-calvin-ridley\">said<\/a>. \u201cHe has had a great history in Atlanta. We\u2019d love him to stay in Atlanta. Whether or not he wants to do that \u2014 he may decide that he wants a fresh start someplace else. We don\u2019t know that. I don\u2019t know that. I don\u2019t have information to indicate that, but we\u2019ll see how that plays out.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"nfl-c-body-part nfl-c-body-part--text\">\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been totally supportive in every way that we can be, both emotionally and financially in working with him as well as his agent,\u201d he continued. \u201cWe\u2019ll see, but I\u2019m mostly concerned about him as a human being.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>Per the NFL, Ridley is eligible to petition the league for reinstatement on February 15, 2023.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i>Joe Morgan is the Sports Reporter for The Daily Wire.
