(Marienko Andrew\/AP)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>\u201cChina is willing to continue playing a constructive role in facilitating dialogue for peace, and work alongside the international community to carry out necessary mediation,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Wang\u2019s \u201csix-point plan\u201d for responding to the Ukraine crisis was entirely concerned with \u201cneutral and impartial\u201d humanitarian operations, not doing anything to convince Russia to halt its attack. (SERGEY BOBOK\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>One of Wang\u2019s points was a demand for all parties to \u201censure the safety of foreign nationals in Ukraine.\u201d Chinese nationals in Ukraine have <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/china\/china-says-over-2500-its-citizens-ukraine-have-been-relocated-2022-03-02\/\"><span>reportedly<\/span><\/a><span> been attacked by locals enraged over Beijing\u2019s unwavering support for Moscow.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>Wang <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/china-provide-ukraine-humanitarian-aid-praises-russia-ties-2022-03-07\/\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> the Red Cross of China would provide humanitarian aid to Ukrainian civilians \u201cas soon as possible,\u201d but offered no further details. His comments were the first official mention of China giving any assistance to Ukraine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Wang dismissed international appeals for Beijing to intervene with Moscow as a trap set by the evil United States to compromise China\u2019s neutrality and integrity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe United States is trying to set up its own bloc to increase pressure on China. China is a sovereign state and we have all rights to resort to necessary measures in order to protect our legal rights,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>\u201cChina and the United States must be cooperating based on an equal basis respecting each other,\u201d he insisted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Wang was especially irked by comparisons between Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine and a feared Chinese invasion of Taiwan. He <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/english.news.cn\/20220307\/ed177aa55a7e4fa4a51b5ebb753b5998\/c.html\"><span>denounced<\/span><\/a><span> such comparisons as a \u201cblatant act of double standards\u201d because Taiwan is supposedly China\u2019s possession, to do with as it wishes, while Russia attacked an independent nation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Wang then launched into a recitation of China\u2019s standard talking points about the Western world encouraging \u201cTaiwan separatists\u201d to pursue a foolish dream of \u201cindependence\u201d by making \u201cempty promises\u201d to protect Taiwan against China.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSeeking foreign support to gain independence is a dead end. The scheme to use Taiwan to contain China is doomed to fail,\u201d he warned.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Wang has previously indicated China\u2019s desire to mediate ceasefire talks, and claimed Beijing has \u201cunwavering support for Ukraine\u2019s sovereignty,\u201d the BBC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-asia-china-60615280\">noted<\/a> Saturday. However, China refuses to condemn the Russian invasion or refer to it as a \u201cwar,\u201d speaking up only to express \u201cregret\u201d for the loss of civilian life. China abstained from the vote on the U.N. resolution to condemn the Russian invasion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cFrom its coercion of Vilnius to its failure thus far to condemn Moscow\u2019s flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine today and in 2014, Beijing\u2019s actions are speaking much louder than its words,\u201d U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/International\/wireStory\/china-russia-chief-strategic-partner-war-83292299\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> of China\u2019s position on Monday, speaking at a news conference from the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The \u201ccoercion\u201d Blinken referred to was China using economic pressure to harass Lithuania for allowing Taiwan to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/01\/29\/lithuania-stood-with-taiwan-against-china-europe-us-should-stand-with-lithuania\/\"><span>open<\/span><\/a><span> a diplomatic office<\/span><span> in Vilnius in November.
