The English edition of Greece\u2019s <em>Ekathimerini<\/em> newspaper reported the incident, writing:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>A pair of Turkish F-16 jets flew over the islets of Anthropofagi and Makronisi in the eastern Aegean on Thursday morning at 20,000 feet.<\/p>\n<p>Three minutes after 10 a.m., a second pair of fighter jets flew over the sea islets at 11,000 feet.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/02\/28\/turkey-violates-greek-airspace-accuses-greece-of-training-terrorists-as-world-distracted-by-ukraine\/\">reported<\/a> on February 28, Turkey\u2019s violation of Greek airspace on February 24 was \u201cpart of an ongoing dispute between the two nations, as Turkey \u2014 a NATO member \u2014 does not acknowledge Greek sovereignty over swathes of territory that lies between them.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The Turkish air force action followed two days after the Greek coastguard fired warning shots at a Turkish fishing boat near the Aegean island of Oinousses on February 22 after the vessel ignored initial requests by the Greek coastguard to leave the area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Greek coastguard vessel initially confronted the Turkish fishermen and asked them to leave, to which they refused and attempted to ram the Coastguard, resulting in the Greeks deploying sound signals and firing warning shots at the Turkish boat, which soon returned to Turkish waters,\u201d Breitbart News recalled.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14523357\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Greece-Turkey-border.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14523357\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Greece-Turkey-border.jpg\" alt=\"This picture taken from the Greek side of the Greece-Turkey border near Kastanies, shows migrants waiting on the Turkish side on March 2, 2020. - Greece was on a state of alert on March 1, 2020 as it faced an influx of thousands of migrants seeking to cross the border from Turkey, with locals fearing a new immigration crisis. (SAKIS MITROLIDIS\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Turkish journalist Hulki Tzevizoglou <a href=\"https:\/\/en.protothema.gr\/turkish-journalists-lets-take-the-islands-that-greece-stole-from-us-video\/\">encouraged<\/a> the Turkish government to continue its aggression toward Greece in the Aegean Sea on March 2. Speaking to a panel of political commentators on CNN Turk, Tzevizoglou <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=umxoFJq-5qg\">said<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Now we must not fall into the trap, but also somehow get back the occupied islands. Is it because of this problem (Ukraine) that we should overlook the fact that some of our islands have been occupied? To be inactive? Our islands were occupied. Alexandroupolis was equipped and Greece is constantly harassing Turkey.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Tzevizoglou and his panel seemed to refer to islands and islets in the Aegean Sea administered by the Greek government but claimed by Turkey. Another Turkish journalist, \u0130brahim Karag\u00fcl, expressed concern on March 4 that Russia\u2019s latest war with Ukraine could spill into the Black Sea, a body of water that serves as a natural barrier between Turkey and Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>In an op-ed for the Turkish newspaper <em>Yeni Safak<\/em>, for which he formally served as editor-in-chief, Karag\u00fcl <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yenisafak.com\/en\/columns\/ibrahim-karagul\/a-missile-may-mistakenly-hit-a-turkish-ship-in-the-black-sea-leading-to-a-possible-war-between-turkey-and-russia-theyre-going-to-attempt-this-ploy-but-we-will-not-shed-blood-for-europes-welfare-3590814\">wrote<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The most important danger for now is a provocation in the Black Sea. A \u201cmistakenly fired\u201d missile may very likely hit a Turkish ship. A Russian plane may be downed. A NATO missile may hit a Russian ship. The U.S. and Europe will definitely attempt this ploy.<\/p>\n<p>That is when it will get out of hand. Turkey must never get directly involved in war even in this case.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Russia <a href=\"https:\/\/tass.com\/politics\/1409329\">launched<\/a> a military operation in neighboring Ukraine on February 24. The development occurred just 72 hours after the Kremlin announced it would formally <a href=\"https:\/\/tass.com\/politics\/1407581\">recognize<\/a> the independence of two Russian-backed breakaway states in eastern Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Ankara has long <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/02\/28\/turkey-violates-greek-airspace-accuses-greece-of-training-terrorists-as-world-distracted-by-ukraine\/\">maintained<\/a> various territorial disputes with Athens in the Aegean Sea in modern times. Moldova, Romania, and Bulgaria line the Black Sea\u2019s western rim, while Russia and Georgia are found along its eastern boundary.<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/place\/Crimea\/History\">annexation<\/a> of southern Ukraine\u2019s Crimean peninsula \u2014 which juts out into the Black Sea toward Turkey \u2014 in 2014 initiated the current, eight-year-old war between Moscow and Kyiv. Crimea\u2019s estimated population of 2.3 million <a href=\"http:\/\/qha.com.ua\/mejlis-doubts-preliminary-results-of-crimean-census-133367en.html\">consists<\/a> of 65.3 percent ethnic Russians, 20 percent Ukrainians, and 15 percent Crimean Tatars.
