To say that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his closest advisers miscalculated significantly would be an understatement. Not only the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2022\/world\/europe\/ukraine-maps.html\">Ukrainian military<\/a>\u00a0is putting a much fiercer and more professional resistance that they\u2014and the world expected\u2014the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/03\/ukraine-war-what-do-you-call-a-40-mile-russian-army-convoy-a-big-target\/\">Russian forces<\/a> are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/03\/a-war-crime-russia-is-using-horrific-cluster-munitions-in-ukraine\/\">underperforming<\/a> at almost all levels.<\/p>\n<p>Ten days into the conflict and the Russian Aerospace Force hasn\u2019t established air dominance over the skies of Ukraine. Until Saturday, the approximately 300 fighter and attack jets that Moscow had amassed on the borders of Ukraine had only conducted a mere score of sorties. But on Saturday that seemed to be changing as more aircraft flew. But that also meant more casualties for the Russians.\n<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday alone, the Ukrainian military shot down eight Russian manned and unmanned aircraft. More specifically, Ukrainian air defenses destroyed one Su-30SM Flanker multirole fighter jet, one Su-34 Fullback strike jet, two Su-25 attack jets, two Mi-24\/35 attack helicopters, one Mi-8 transport helicopter, and one Orlan-10 unmanned aerial system.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, in the ten days of war, the Ukrainian military has shot down 44 Russian fighter, attack, and transport aircraft and 44 helicopters. And U.S. defense officials assess that the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2022\/03\/04\/us-weapons-ukraine\/\">Ukrainian Air Force<\/a>\u00a0can still conduct sorties and maintains overall air superiority.\n<\/p>\n<p>American-provide\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.army.mil\/article\/198986\/army_intensifying_stinger_air_missile_training_as_part_of_new_strategic_initiatives\">FIM-92 Stinger<\/a>\u00a0anti-aircraft Man-Portable, Air Defense Missile Systems (MANPADS) have played an important role in ensuring that Russian aircraft don\u2019t operate freely over Ukraine.\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5532\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5532\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5532\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Invade-Ukraine-1200x800-1.jpg\" alt=\"Invade Ukraine\" width=\"880\" height=\"587\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Invade-Ukraine.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Invade-Ukraine-300x200-1.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Invade-Ukraine-768x512-1.jpg 768w\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5532\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image from Vitaly V. Russian Armata T-14 tank.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KyivIndependent\/status\/1500021628465553414\">claimed<\/a>\u00a0that as of Saturday, Ukrainian forces have killed, wounded, or captured approximately 10,000 Russian troops, destroyed 44 fighter, attack, and transport jets, 44 helicopters, 269 tanks, 105 artillery pieces, 945 armored personnel carriers, 50 Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS), two boats, 409 cars, 60 fuel tanks, 18 anti-aircraft batteries, and four unmanned aerial systems. As always, the accuracy of these numbers is shrouded in a fog of war and expected hyperbole. But independent reporting from the ground does indeed suggest that the Russians have lost hundreds of weapon systems.\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Diplomatic and Political Front<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/03\/putins-big-war-lie-ukraine-doesnt-have-a-nazi-problem\/\">Putin<\/a> went on Russian television on Saturday to warn Ukraine and the world about the war. He stated that Russia will continue with its \u201cspecial military operation\u201d as planned and will see it through.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe current leadership needs to understand that if they continue doing what they are doing, they risk the future of Ukrainian statehood,\u201d Putin said.\n<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, despite urgent requests by the Ukrainian government for a no-fly zone over Ukraine, the U.S. and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/world\/the-nato-rapid-response-unit-created-after-russias-2014-invasion-of-ukraine-is-being-activated-for-first-of-its-kind-mission\/ar-AAUvNO5\">NATO<\/a>\u00a0have ruled out that possibility for it would bring NATO aircraft in direct confrontation with Russian planes.
